F1 style practise for V8's?
What do you think?
Keeping ALL costs aside would it be a good idea for the slower teams to be able to run a third car on the Friday. THis would help the slower teams like WPS, DJR ect. gain more Data. I think apart from te costs it would be a great idea in trying to even out the performance of the teams. Brendan |

First they limited it to Ford and Holden to make things even.
Then they introduced Project blueprint to make 2 manufacturers even. Now they are talking control floor pan to make 2 manufacturers even. Now they introduce Reverse grids to even things up. Extra cars for lower teams/ could happen. How far are they going to go. This is competition remember. |

I cant see it gaining support. Most teams dont currently bring their spare car with them so its a 50% bigger logistics effort allowing extra practise.

Why not just draw grid positions and race results from a barrell to save everyone the cost?
This is supposed to be motor racing - unfortunately motor racing costs money if you want to win. You don't hae the money, don't go motor racing and stop *****ing because some teams have the backing to be able to spend squllions on it. |

Next someone will come up with the stupid F1 rule of one motor for two race meetings, just to keep cost down
OOPS I have done it now, we will have Aussie Bernie, Big Kev O and the VE$A cohorts looking into it. |

More test days would be more useful than a third car maybe? Do all the poorer teams even have third cars?

In one word NO, I think that you will find only 6 to 8 would have spare cars, but I could be wrong. |

Ahhh a subject close to my heart, or more accurately the 60 Toyotas we have booked in for service today..
Toyota want to be in V8Supercar on their terms. They dont have a pushrod engine in their range, and can tweak the Tundra engine if required, however it was not designed for EFI, so would need more work to make it Supercar-friendly. A twin cam engine from the LS430 in 4.3L spec would be perfect, but having seen one on the dyno (before someone molested it with supercharging and other tweaks) this engine works in the upper end of the rev range, and 7500 rpm would probably strangle it. Next problem is what chassis to put it in. Peter Muir proved you can fit anything to anything when he built that Magna Future Tourer on top of a Commodore V8 and driveline.. I have seen the drawings of a current shape Camry with a similar treatment.. Toyota is committed to rallying.. and it would need to be a hell of a good pull away from rallying (which they might actually win now all the good cars have left the ARC). Prodrive obviously think they have a good hook. They are still pitching to take over the rally program, the tarmac program and to introduce V8Supercar to their brand.. in reality...if you drove a new Falcon, then a new Commodore then a new Toyota
and your decison was based purley on those drives and value for money...you'd pick the the Toyota that aside....I think Toyota is very clever in using those terms...and I dont think there is anything that Avesco (whatever) can do about it. |

Ahh no, I would pick the.. (looks around to see if the boss is watching me type).. 380.
It is light to steer and totally driveable for the enthusiast. A Camry will outlast its owner because they usually die of boredom first! A nice car if you are a passenger, not if you are a driver. |

Going back to the actual thread topic...... I'd like to see the F1 style qualifying applied to the V8's. All 32 cars start for 15 minutes, the bottom 10 drop out, then another 15 minutes and we lose another 10 cars and then the final 12 battle it out for the top honour for 20 minutes. I also like the 110% rule being applied to qualifying laps to prevent slow cars getting in the way.. |

Either way, its only about 2 seconds between the front and back of the grid, so everyone gets in fairly easily |

That was discussed in another thread You couldn't have all cars on the track for 15 minutes. Only a lucky few would get to set a time. |
