Upside Down Bug should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Lydden Driver of the Day

Now I've had some time to catch my breath following Monday's event, I've been looking through the results. Normally myself and the boy blunder decide on drivers of the day. For me, I think I'll go for Ryan Lawford second overal in BTRDA stock hatch at his first ever rallycross event.

Any other thoughts?

shhh has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Steve Hill

Steve Hill for me, If he had made the start grid for the Superfinal, I think he could have upset the establishment.. Superb drive in a car not half the spec of Doran & co. Guaranteed to see him on the podium this year

Mr Turps!! Enough said!!

Mr Hill, I think he was easily the fastest driver out there in an underpowered car! If he can persuade more horses from the Misti engine I think he'll be ambarassing the big boys...as it were.

I would go for Ryan Lawford, but as his 'BTRDA stockhatch car' is prepared by G-Tech, the same people that run yound Master Jordans little motor remember, thats not really in the spirit of things is it?

Is it the same car that G-Tech ran a few years back for, I think it was... Sam Johnston

Indeed it was the same car, but it still needs the nut behind the wheel to make it work.

Turps and Hill are both very good shouts too though.

Clearly one winner of the Driver of the Day - Dave Bellerby's dominance of the Super Modified. I have watched Rallyx virtually since its inception and his speed and line through paddock was very impressive. I know the car is good but back of the grid to the front by the first corner needs good clean and competent driving.

There needs to be amention also of Simon White - brilliant display in a superb car first time out.

Everyone mentioned so far really deserve all the praise that they have received but for me it must be Mike Turpin for those two outrageous passes on the outside of the hairpin.

Good thread I've added a poll (if anyone wants any more options added just let me know).

Steve Hill was very impressive, it was the first time I'd seen him on action and to be honest I expected him to be a bit of a makewieght with the Evo - how wrong was that? Certainly made his presence felt. Evans also looked quick all day but Doran had the edge.

Bellerby blitzed supermodified but after the first corner rarely had any work to do, Turpin on the other hand made some fantastic moves on people throughout the races. Kyle Orr looked to be the class of the field in the Juniors but that could be down to experience, I think the others will get closer as the season goes on.

Anyway, after all that my driver of the day is Turpin - great overtaking and a fantastic sounding car (he also seemed to have the backing of the crowd - there were audible cheers everytime he put a move on someone ).

I think Kyle orrs car control was immense, and i think this year should be the year he cleans up, would be nice to see him out in a stock hatch some time.

The move he pulled on Ben Rennison going into the elbow was superb - sold him a dummy then passed on the inside, top stuff.

Also an amazing move round the outside at Chessons. Brilliant display from a "mature" driver in a "mature" car.

Ryan has been part of the G.Tech team for some years working on Wills cars .
He has only had done some karting not much!

As for the car well its been on its roof twice ,once with Sam and the second time I was taken for a ride into the tyres and once over at paddock (Lydden)
Shell totally rebuilt by myself and Kirk T before i gave it back to Will , the rest of the car is just as it was built for the 2003 season. Only thing thats new are the tyres! o and the driver.

Although Turpin was immensly impressive throughout the day, IMHO he would not get driver of the day for the simple matter of continuing to race after the chequered flag and narrowly missing a marshal whilst going towards Chessons.

My driver of the day would be Bellerby without the shadow of a doubt. For the reason that he started right at the very back of the grid (due to him not being able to see the lights) behind EVERYONE and still managed to be 2 - 3 car lengths ahead of everyone going into Chessons. I would really like to see him drive a Supercar!

Yes that would be very interesting, however I would like to see Bellerby convert his 206 from 2wd to 4wd!! To add an extra little spice to the Supercar area!
