NEW 2006 Indy "Qualifying" Pick 'Em Contest

2006 Indy 500 “Qualifying” Pick ‘em Contest
May 20, 2006

This is The “New” Contest!!!

DEADLINE: Saturday, May 20, at Noon (GMT), which is 6 a.m. In “The Racing Capital of the World”

NOTE: Read them carefully, because the Quals format is different at Indy than it is anywhere else in the world. They take the Average Speed of four laps here, and the fastest single lap doesn’t necessarily get set by the pole sitter.

QUALIFYING PICKS:

1. The Pole Winner: (2 pts)

2. The Pole Winner's “Average Qualifying Speed” (4-Lap Average) (2 pts.)
Carry it out to the one-thousandth place like IRL Scoring does:

NOTE: IF you get BOTH #1 and #2 Correct/Closest, add 2 "Bonus Points"

3.The Driver who will Run the “Single Fastest Qualifying Lap” (2 pts.)

4. The Actual Speed of that “Fast Lap” (2 pts.)

NOTE: IF you get BOTH #1 and #2 Correct/Closest, add 2 "Bonus Points"

5. List the Pole Winner Again, plus the “Top Three Rows”(in order) who will earn the “Top Nine Spots” in the Field: (2 pts for each Driver in correct spot, 1 pt. For correct Driver, but wrong spot)

ROW ONE:
1.
2.
3.

ROW TWO:
1.
2.
3.

ROW THREE:
1.
2.
3.

6. Slowest Qualifier In the field – It might not be the 33rd car if a person “bumps” in on Sunday, but is faster than the 32nd car in the field from Saturday (2 pts.)

7. Average 4-Lap Speed of the “Slowest Qualifier” – (2 pts)

8. Name the Three Drivers in the “Last Row” of the Field:

ROW 11:
1.
2.
3.

9. If a Driver gets “Bumped” Sunday, Who will it be? (2 pts.)

10. Pick Top Dallara Qualifier (2 pts)

11. Pick Top Panoz Qualifier (2 pts)

I've added some wrinkles to this one to incorporate the final weekend of action and what it will bring to us.

GOOD LUCK!

As of last weekend's draw, the list is on the IRL's site.

Anyone else would be determined by the car number that they will step into that was drawn, or would go to the end of the line.

Hamilton has not been confirmed yet by Cheever, so it could be him or someone else in that one.

If PJ Jones does drive a second Back car, I assume he wuld go to the end of the qualifying order, since Beck doesn't have a car listed on the entry boards

I will count your seelctions as they apply from the other contest in the same way I will cound Drewdawg's, Flavinha.

The reason why I did a new contest was because the rainout of the entire first weekend changed the dynamics of the contest...

No One's "Bump" seelction would have made sense, since it was originally the 12th fastest qualifier, as an example....

But since you didn't get to pick "Last Row and some other things, I will count as many of your selections (including 10th, 11th and 12th places) to help you in the scoring department.

I'll do the same for drewdawg

I got back home last night, so it might be a couple of days before I post the results....

I'm playing catch up at work from being gone for two days last week, and I have two big events to prepare for this week...

One of them is this afternoon.

Now, so that I don't keep you in suspense, we have a new season leader...

And anyone who was in on "Pole Day" picks, but not in this one, were also counted.

But here are your results:

DrDisque did some major surgery on us, gang!

For the Pole Pick, Tim, DrDisque, Flavinha, Marcus and Stmookey all picked Hornis for 2 pts.

DrDisque was closet to the Pole 4-Lap Avg. for two more, plus the two "Bonus Points"

Faastest single lap: Tim, DrDisque, Alwaysfirst and Flavinha also picked Hornish correctly for 2 pts each

Dr. Disque was closest to the single lap speed for 2 pts, plus the two "Bonus" points (again!)

See where this is going, don't you????

For the "Top 3 Rows" I also factored in the 10th and 11th spots for those in the "pole" but not here because they couldn't or didn't know about the new contest...but for the rest who were in this, I counted them straight up as we picked them with the Top 9.

Here were everyone's points in this section:

DrDisque - 11 pts.
Drewdawg - 11 pts.
Tim - 10 pts.
Flavinha - 10 pts.
Stmookey - 9 pts.
marcus - 7 pts.
OpenWheel4Ever - 7 pts.
AlwaysFirst - 6 pts.

AlwaysFirst was the only one to pick Thiagos Medieros as the slowest qualifier

Tim was closest to the 4-lap avg. for the slowest qualifier

For the "Last Row" picks, DrDisque had 3 pts., and AlwaysFirst earned 2 pts.

For the "Bumped," I actually counted two picks, because I'm generous.....

Since Jon Herb got literlally "bumped" from his seat, I counted him, and since Marty Roth didn't make the race, I counted him as well....

Tim, DrDisque and AlwaysFirst earned 2 pts each

Top Dallara got Tim, DrDisque, Flavinha, Marcus and Stmookey 2 pts each

Only AlwaysFirst had Danica as the Top Panoz

"Qualifying Contest Results:

1. DrDisque - 30 pts.
2. Tim - 20 pts.
3. Flavinha - 16 pts.
(tie) AlwaysFirst - 16 pts.
5. Stmookey - 13 pts.
6. Marcus - 11 pts.
(tie) Drewdawg - 11 pts.
8. OpenWheel4Ever - 7 pts.

I was laughing my arse off in the Grandstand E Penthouse when I knew I hit that right on. Guess I'll have to go to pole day and sit there every year! Too bad
