It would be about time. He was great for that stretch in the early 2000s, he more than deserves another shot, even if 2003-4 wasn't much to scream about. But who gets bounced 2 years after winning the Daytona 500?

There have been strong rumors the past couple days that Ward signed with Toyota. Several organizations reported the rumors. However, today Ward made an announcement that the rumors were false.

It'd be nice to see Ward back again. His best chance is with either Yates or Ganassi, they both still have open seats. I think that both teams need a veteran driver and Ward is the main guy actively looking for a ride. Ricky Rudd is another possible person, but I honestly don't expect him back full time.
I think it will be a struggle for Ward coming back, its been almost 2 years since he last raced. It hard to say what his physical and mental condition for racing is. It might be similar to Eddie Cheever in the IRL. He was out of the car for a few years and just didn't have "it" anymore when he returned this year. I think Ward would be a lot more succesful if he found a truck series ride, Toyota would be a good bet there. They might be looking for a few drivers if some move up to Cup or Busch next year. J.D. |
