Close Encounter of the David Leslie Kind

I was at the Trans Am Weekend in Canada on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and as I was tiptoeing through the program, I saw the name "David Leslie" listed under Speedvision Touring Car Entries. I said to my cousin, "I wonder if that is the same guy that raced in Touring Cars for the BTCC?" We went down to the Touring Car Paddock and it turned out that it was indeed our loveable Oaf from the BTCC. He is much thinner but otherwise looks the same, and seemed quite relaxed and casual - in other words, he is there for the fun of the thing and not to achieve international fame and fortune. He said that he is hoping to get a seat as a third driver at Le Mans, but that's not certain yet; he also said that he's going to be racing next in a Historics race at Magny-Cours in an Italian car which he could not identify!

He had a rather fraught weekend and started fourteenth and finished about in the same position. We cheered for him anyway. By a rather funny coincidence, just as they announced his name over the track loudspeakers, the Track Marshall blew an air horn for the 2 minute warning - prompting my cousin to say "Is Invader Here?"

So certain peoples' reputations precede them ....
