Windows Vista compatability issues
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone's successfully managed to run WinTax 2 and/ or 3 in Windows Vista? The software loads, and the ethernet connection can see the live feed in DL Setup, but falls comes up with err178 if I try to communicate with the logger. I suspect it's a network issue, but haven't found a setting that will make it work. Anyone else found a fix for this? Thanks |

Have you tried running it in compatibility mode? That has fixed some issues for me. (That's a general remark; I know nothing about Win Tax.)

The programs are all set to run in XP compatability mode, I've disabled wireless networking too.

I have these problems in fact I still have two computers here I have had to keep running 98 as there were no software upgrades to XP. I loaded Vista recently on a mates Sony Visio the machine is about 3 years old, and it did not like it one bit, all his Sony video and walkman progs were uncompatable etc in the end we reverted back. This is why Dell still offer XP as a no cost upgrade (downgrade?). You may want to consider (if no solution can be found) partitioning the disc and running a dual boot setup, Xp on one Vista on the other, this is possible and I believe reasonably easy to do with the Vista setup although I have yet to try but I did research it a bit.

Had a breakthrough this weekend and finally got the lap top to talk to the logger - the problems I was having seem to be related to the IP addresses.

I had similiar problems the other week trying to get a 2nd hand printer/copier with own on board computer to talk to the network and that was IP address issues, it had been set and locked for the previous owners network once I managed to access it and change it so it automatically assigned an available address it was talking to the rest of the machines on the intranet in no time, can throw you a bit though.
