It’s gonna be interesting, Danny’s stock has risen since China. Hopefully he will continue to have a top seat in F1 wherever that is

Horner has told German magazine Auto Motor Und Sport Ricciardo has until August to sign a new contract — or the team will begin looking for his replacement.
“We do not want to wait forever. We have other good options. Our priority is to continue working with Daniel. If that does not work, we’ll pull the other options.” “The most obvious is Carlos Sainz,” Horner said. “He is under contract with us. And then there are a few young drivers.” |

Hopefully Horner realizes how screwed he is but I doubt it. He seems to have taken over for Bernie in the all is well, look at all our options department. |

Is it really that bad? Red Bull should try and keep Ricciardo, he’s a great driver. However I don’t think Horner is lying awake at night worried about drivers.

According to Express, Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport is reporting Ricciardo wants a contract worth $66 million over two years with whatever team he drives for.
It is alleged in the report Ricciardo has told Ferrari and Mercedes of his salary demands, in case he decides to leave Red Bull. |

If Dan goes to Merc, Horner would do well to get on the phone to Toto to grab Ocon.

How can Ricciardo demand 66m million over 2 years with no F1 drivers championships to back it up?
None of the teams have any real incentive to get Ricciardo, and they know it. Merc and Ferrari have perfect driver lineups. A clear number 1 and clear number 2 driver. Merc and Ferrari hold all the cards...At worst Dan could get pigeon holed the way Alonso was pigeon holed. At the end of the day, Dan would drive for FREE at Merc...if he knew he would get the drivers title the last 3 years in a row... |

is 33mil a year really that outrageous though? future potential is a huge bargaining chip and he is a hot property right now.
if true i would assume its a combination of base retainer plus a bonus structure worth up to 33 a year if he wins a title and if he doesnt he would still be the lesser paid driver (if current 2018 salary estimates are to be believed) on both Merc/LH and Ferrari/SV. i would also suspect (if that wage demand is true) that bar is also being set by RB although i think their philosophy is a lower retainer with more in the way of performance bonuses. would he drive for free...would i? that kind of money is hard to turn down and we see top level athletes sacrifice competitive advantage all the time in order to secure a huge payday/financial security. i dont know if Alonso falls into that category or not...actually not sure if Ferrari or Merc would even take him for free. certainly FA loves racing but i suspect he also wants to be paid what he thinks he is worth...nothing wrong with that imo. |

Contrary opinions
“If you’re a betting man you’d say Mercedes,” said David Brabham. “Lewis would know it would raise him, and Daniel will rise himself to another level.” Matt Bishop concluded: “People have been hyping him for Ferrari but would Sebastian have him back? Daniel was too good for him at Red Bull in that car. Sebastian wants a Kimi [Raikkonen], or another Kimi. Somebody compliant, good, friendly, non-troublesome. “It’s not Mercedes’ policy to have a number one and two driver, but at Ferrari, it is.” |

Bottas to Ferrari and Ricciardo to Mercedes makes more sense.
Bottas is the perfect Number 2 driver, whilst Hamilton appears to speak of retirement from time to time......so it must feature somewhere in his thinking. Ricciardo would be the perfect long term replacement for him. |

Bottas would be a shot at Renault if Dan goes to Mercedes and Sainz goes to RBR.

With not much changes with drivers/teams from last season from this season, Sauber and Williams being the only ones to change from the 2017 Abu Dhabi GP, it seems the 2019 driver market could and should have some big changes ahead.
