Barcelona test AM: Pizzonia fastest
Antonio Pizzonia has returned to the top of the timesheets at Barcelona this morning (Wednesday), lapping almost two seconds faster than his best time from yesterday.
However, Pizzonia's Jaguar team-mate Mark Webber has failed to take to the circuit again this morning, as his mechanics continued to work on his car. The Australian managed only two laps all day yesterday, and failed to set a representative time. Ferrari test-driver Luca Badoer set a best time just fractions shy of Pizzonia's, with Toyota driver Olivier Panis setting the third fastest time. Cristiano da Matta continued to acclimatise himself to Formula 1, setting a best time over two seconds slower than Panis' best. The session was briefly halted when BAR tester Anthony Davidson spun off the circuit. How many laps did they and what did they test? Because I find hard to accept a Jaguar improved THAT much that is faster (even 0.018s) than a Ferrari.....

It didnt say, still I will admit it is suprising yeah but u dont know what Ferrari were trying to do, for all we know he could have been doing a tyre development programme rather than going for outright speed.

True but I mean Jaguar is going to be a suprise package next year I think. I woudnt mind betting they are there right behind, Ferrari, Mclaren, Willams and Renault. Maybe the same level as Sauber but by the end of the year I think that they will be in front.

Like I said in another thread - in this difficult week for Jaguar you'd hardly expect anything else. They will do anything to top the time sheets this week - too much risk of losing sponsors whilst they are publicly going through managerial turmoil.

Most people read much to much significance into test times...it's not like when you're in formula ford just going around and round trying to go faster!
Yes Pizzonia and Panis are learning their cars but I can tell you for a fact that Davidson is just testing components for 005. Times mean nothing at all! Indeed he has only twice this year been given a run in a light car (full qualifying set up low fuel + new tyres etc) Thats about 4 to 6 laps (with tyres at their best and enough fuel for an out lap, one flying lap and just enuf gas to make it back to the pits) Some teams do go for a time to keep sponsors or bosses back at base happy, BAR is not one of them. |

Testing threads should really be top of page all the time! But I can't blame you with this hyped-up and illinformed formed level of reporting... Pizzonia was 2 seconds faster because the track starts dirty and gets faster...except in case of Davidson who's fastest morning time remained all day due to an engine failure...(not a spin!) |
