Where to for Ford
Seems to be a strong concensus that should Ford fail in this years V8 Supercar series, that will be the end of their support for the category. Will Ford pursue another category in Australia? If so, what & why?

I rekon they should pull out now and go into Nations Cup and do what Holden did with the Monaro. Put a huge engine in it and race. That would be good.

Works-supported Focus rallying program, perhaps?

Ford are loosing credability fast, though remember it has only been 2 years since they upped their commitment to Aussie motorsport again. 2003 might just be their year. For the category's sake, let's hope so.

If Ford give supercar the heave-ho they will still have to enter the Falcon in some kind of motorsport for the purposes of brand recognition, so that suggests to me a category in Procars show somewhere

Me neither. I can't see Ford seriously considering leaving V8 Supercar racing. Also, sadly, apart from V8's, there is no category in Australia that has much of an impact on the general public...the people who buy Falcons...

This year will see a turn around in Fords racing performance, the new Falcon will sweep all before it in an unprecidented string of great and memorable victories and Holdens will be humilated totally.
...But I say this every year, nothing like optimisim though.. |

Every January you get the same old "it's this year or we're out" story.
The sad truth is they have no other place to go.......... |

You've got to wonder what is worse for Ford though, not looking good getting beaten by Holden on the track, or not looking good by not competing.
They are talking the BA up so much, if the car fails, how will they look. There is no where as high profile for Ford to go at the moment with the Falcon, but in the early 90s they really got behind Group E, and not worrying about the Sierra's. Also, Lowdnes, Ingall etc....are have Ford contracts, not Ford V8Supercar contracts, as far as i know. I'd be suprised if they did pull out, but then again if they did it kinda wouldn't suprise. Interesting to wonder what would happen if they did, where would the category go, that is the danger of a two make formula of course, one going away. |

I think if the BA fails, they'll just dig into the ol' excuse book..... again.

If Ford "pulled out" of the Supercars, wouldn't that effectively end the category?
I'd be happy to see Ford support Nations Cup or GTP racing - especially if it took all of its contracted teams and drivers. A works supported Focus rally program (back to the 70's) would only be likely if Ford built Focus with Escort Cosworth running gear(as per the Bates Corolla) - not sure about the commercial pay-off for that, but would like to see it anyway. |

Maybe the new Prodrive team should be called "Ford Australia Racing Team"( or F.A.R.T for short), 'cause all they will be doing this year is farting around.

I think Ford will stay and it will be ever determined to start 2003 in Adelaide with a vengeance. All forecasts suggest Adelaide's 4 day carnival will be absolutely full on!!
