alonso11 has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
It's not sure that this is the best seat anymore! I've just read a good article about it in a Hungarian motorsport mag and Repsol team is affraid now to loose its number1 status that its enjoyed since 1995.Now it's possible that the Honda factory will give the number1 backing to the Telefónica Movistar team of the Gibernau-Edwards duo, leaving Repsol in the cold.

To answer the question most likely is that Barros will partner Hayden at the Repsol and enginer guru Jeremy Burgess said that he not just left Repsol to stay with Rossi but also because he doesn't really rate Barros and Hayden is not mature enough yet in his opinion so there is no rider to work with.(Honda's original plan was that Burgess will work with Barros but it's obviously not going to happen and Hayden's enginer Trevor Morris became the head-enginger at Repsol)

At the same time Edwards was -allegedly- real smashing during his recent test with Telefonica Honda and previously he also won the SBK title for Honda, while Gibernau is last season's runner-up...

This used to be the number 1 seat while Burgess was at the helm. Will be interesting to see how good it is now that he is gone. Barros is a great rider though and I beleive he and Edwards are big contenders next season. With the likes of Rossi, Edwards, Gibernau, Barros, Caporossi, Bayliss, Biaggi and co going for the title, it will be one hell of a year and I will be surprised if they all don`t win races at some stage. Rossi and Burgess are my pick though.

As things stand Tech 3 are unlikely to release Barros from his contract, unless he coughs up $ 2.5 million. HRC won't pay, so Barros will probably remain with Yamaha next year.

Agree about Barros, no way will Repsol pay all that outfor a rider who didn't do muchlast year. Yes he was good on teh RCV in 2002 but I think it would be a risk.
What do you all think about HRC swooping for Roberts perhaps? He said all last year and was right that he was a match for Sete on the dog slow GSV in 2002, makes sense that he would be just as good on a Honda. Rumors also abound that even Kurtis might be on a Proton in 2004. But I don't think Repsol would be too keen opn two yanks in the same Spainish sponsored team.
Anyone think of a young Spaniard making waves in the lower classes, Fonsi Nieto. Toni Elias, now there is a great idea! Go on Honda do itm you know you want to!!

Toni Elias remains in the 250cc, he signed with Fortuna Honda to partner Roberto Rolfo. He said he only chose the Honda because he affraid of the team policy of Aprilia and don't want to go there just to be number2 for Poggiali.

Hopefully the rumour about the Telefonica team becoming main Honda duo is correct. Edwards is my pick to be up there fighting for the title at the end of the season, against Rossi no doubt.

i'd love to see kenny roberts jr take that seat, but both he and suzuki are commited to each other for the long run.

so i think honda should give it to McCoy!!! Gazza should offer to ride for nothing, it would be worth it.

As you can see Barros despairingly wants to leave Yamaha and the Barros to Repsol Honda deal is still likely

I concur with this thought. After his terrific season, Sete certainly deserves to be Honda's number one rider while Edwards deserves top-notch equipment after being shunted to Aprilia (and therefore basically wasting a season)...

RIght now Barros is the best bet for HRC ride. AFAIK that is still possibility that Repsol will jump the ship to D'Antin Ducati...

But if not... That is crazy and it is only my hope, but what about Ben Bostrom link, he is American Honda rider, he is (at least) as good (and I think much better) as Xaus. Two Americans under Spanish backing is crazy, three Americans in HRC either. I would love to see Ben in MGP

There is still few guys without a ride, so maybe one of two Yamaha Japanese riders -- Shinya Nakano or Norick Abe?

Apparantly, Barros is now highly likely to stay with Yamaha...

If he stays with Yamaha, I really do hope Norick Abe gets the last remaining HRC seat.

Therefore, Jacque will take Gauloises with him to HRC while Repsol can move to D'Antin. As for Tech 3... who knows...

Geez, now that one looks at it, scarily it could happen!

Abe raced Honda NSR500 when he was in All-Japan 500 Championship and he was also on one at his first ever GP500 race at Suzuka in Japan. Whether Honda and Abe still have something going on between them is unknown of course.

I think it is Gauloises that is trying to keep Barros at Yamaha, so Gauloises going to Honda is a bit unlikely, but you never know these days...

Entertaining speculations indeed

Gauloises announced that they stay with Yamaha. (and their pilot is certainly Frenchman Jacques rather than Barros who has nothing to do with the company) At the same time Barros pointed out again in an interview that he wants to leave Yamaha by all means and he is negotiating with Honda.

Alex K, you are right, recently Barros is the best bet but Shinya Nakano is likely to join Kawasaki.

Biaggi have links with Pramac as sponsor, the same with Barros, he’s got contract to Altadis directly not Yamaha. That is the problem for Barros. Crash.net is saying that it is still possibility that Biaggi will get the ride at HRC, but the problem is Doohan.

I forgot about Nakano link with Kawasaki. Interesting situation is in Pramac teams. When Tohru Ukawa left Sito Pons’ team, Sito have no bike. Second Pramac team have contract with Bridgestone, and Sito’s with Michelin, these are two independent teams, and there is a problem with tyre contract, Biaggi wants Michelin. Now we have to wait and see… God knows how long.http://www.crash.net/uk/en/news_view...id=6&nid=81764

Carlo Fiorani revealed that Barros is almost certainly will join the HRC Honda team to partner Hayden in 2004.Barros is still absolutely on the top of Honda's list Oh and actually next week he will visit his doctor to get the very final approval from him before riding again.

I really do hope that is the case. Barros certainly deserve that seat and Norick Abe can get a full season ride on a Yamaha as well if that happens.

I'd love to see Haga get it. He'd certainly be a better choice than Tohru Ukawa or Norick Abe. It'd be a shame if he had to leave MotoGP due to politics.

I'd love to see Barros in HRC and Abe in Yamaha . At last a positive sign from Honda camp.
