Zanardi praises Dallara
In the latest issue of italian magazine Autosprint there is an article by Alex Zanardi about Renna's death.
he gave it such a title "let's give great honours to Saint Dallara" He says it's no surprise that Dallara cars, despite many flying accidents, granted drivers survival, indirectly meaning that GForce didn't. He particularly claims that people who historically were interested at safety , like Mr. Dallara, should get more attentions in the high skies of motorsport government; he says (about racing on ovals): "competent people like Mr Dallara and his equipe could study the problem without distorting the rulebooks, like it happened in F1..." What do you think about it? |

Brack and Andretti were both in Dallaras. That Renna was in an unsurviveable accident isnt the fault of GForce.
Maybe Zanardi should be praising Lola? Afterall no one's lost their legs in one of those. |

But then, there hasn't been an accident like that other than in a Reynard.
The indirect meaning climb gives to Zanardi's article is not necessarily the meaning Alex meant. I think he's more than anything prasing a man. |

I have the article under my eyes right now; I can read:
"I think that many drivers shold light more than a candle to Saint Dallara" from Parma, since during the IRL season we saw many spectacular accidents, where drivers just got a big fright...." It's arguable that Brack's crash didn't cause just a fright, but its result was anyways way different from Renna's. From what we know it's impossibile to say that it was or it was not GForce fault. The two cars are built differently, after all. Brack had a terrible crash, too; it originated ina totally different way, but both wnet against the fence. Reports say it remained tangled in the fence. If his car did come to an almost instant halt on impact (I am making an assumption here), then that would explain why he succumbed to blunt force injuries while Kenny escaped with his lesser injuries. It is absolutely meaningless to imply that the G-Force failed to "protect the driver's life" by simply comparing Renna's crash with Brack's. The circumstances of both accidents were clearly different. And I agree with Jordi as to Zanardi's intended sentiments. I think you may be misinterpreting him, climb. |

And since we do not have a clue as to how Renna's crash happened, we can't really compare it...

I watched Brack's shunt on a frame by frame slo-mo. The deciding factor was undoubtably the fact that he personally made no contact with the fence due. Nobody's seen poor Tony's accident, but the report that the tub remained stuck in the fence tells you all you need to know about the forces involved. Alex is a hero, in the true sense, but once a car leaves the ground, the end result is purely down to luck.

If Rennas car did come to a sudden stop in the catch fencing it wouldnt matter what he was in be it a dallara or a tank the internal injuries are going to be just as severe

what would happen if they gave the cars ground effects or a skirt: sucking them to the ground, would that be safer?

No, because cars are already well sucked under normal circumstances. If, however, the car is unsettled, it will fly...
