Tony “I wanna be like Bernie” wont like this for long...
Looking at lap times on Natsoft today and looking at the times of both V8 Taxis and also the Carrera Cup GT3’s and I tell ya what I don’t think it will be to long before Tony “I wanna be like Bernie” either slows them down or gets them of the V8 circus calendar…
Check this out... the fastest and slowest lap times from the third race at Oran Park in both V8'S and the GT3's 1 888 Team Betta Electrical Craig Lowndes Ford Falcon BA 5000 53 01:13:53.5865 9 1:10.2166* DNF 11 Jack Daniel's Racing Paul Dumbrell Holden Commodore VZ 5000 8 12:03.8254 6 1:12.7183 1 21 Glenfords Tool Centres/Dewalt Alex Davison 2006 911 GT3 Cup 997 360016 21:02.5409 6 1:10.0799* DNF 5 VIP Petfoods Klark Quinn 2006 911 GT3 Cup 997 3600 2 2:41.6071 2 1:12.8261 |

The Porkers develop over the years the V8s rules as far as I can remember for the last 10 years have only been to slow them down pretty much so the teams can only do so much within the rules.

I think simply the control tyre is at its limits, it would be close to ten years old the compound that they used and the Cup cars run the latest Michelin slicks. update the control tyre and the v8s will be quicker again

except at other tracks the record is current
and at most tracks (posssibly even op it is quicker than the year before) what it shows is thatw e are not using the same tyres as 1999 and or the track surface has deterioted since 1999 |

Exactly.
No-one cares about the times at OP, it's gonna be history in about 3 years anyway. |

Plenty of categories set quicker times than V8Supercars (F3, the quick Sports Sedans and GT cars), it doesn't seem to be an issue, and i'm not sure why it would be. Its the quality of the racing that matters, not how quick they are.

Just shows how more purpose-built the GT3s are comparitively, plus i'd love to see the V8s running on some decent rubber again...

Skaife on Yokohama's in the donut king commodore...
Johnson and Perkins? on Dunlop's Brock and Murphy in the HRT's on bridgestones's Wait, its gonna be 2007 next year, not 1997.. :P ______________________________________________ In all seriousness though, wouldn't having an open tyre supplier like the old days help attract sponsors money more. Dunlop pays a condiserable amount to V8SC (not the teams) to secure a single control tyre. In the old days, the teams got the sponsors money from tyres. The control tyre was implemented so that all teams had to 'pay the same' for tyres, and all the sponsors money was taken by Aussie Bernie. |

That raises an interesting point. If the V8's were given more rubber to play with every race weekend, would they have better tyres to set faster times?

Remember that two tyres are wasted in each race due to the contrived pitstops. They could make the distance on one set of tyres, but rules and regulations force them to change........ |

wasted would mean they are never used again wouldnt it, as opposed to using them in race two or the start of race three or maybe in the future practise sessions
