Taupo tickets on sale next week

Have just read that Taupo tickets will be on sale next Wednesday.

Accommodation in the surrounding area is already scarce, and the local tourism info centre got 20 calls on Monday morning alone. It will be a sellout...

Capacity will be 35,000, the majority of which will be in grandstand seating (up to NZ$295, general admission $90). The Thursday will be free entry (I guess support categories practicing).

If $295 is the price for the majority of the grandstand seats then the organisers have shot themselves in the foot big time. Can anyone tell me how these prices compare with the V8 Supercars at Pukekohe?

Hang on guys, I presume there will be different grandstand options and $295 will be the most expensive one. It does not mean all grandstand seats will be $295. Of the 35,000 capacity crowd 5,000 is general admission on grass embankments ($90).

I don't think you can compare this to V8 Supercars at Pukekohe. This will be much more of an 'event' rather than just a race. All indications are that it will be a sellout so why not charge more?

Regarding support races, here is an excert from the article I provided a link for earlier:

Quote:
McMurray says the event will be action-packed given the quality of support races, with New Zealand V8s, Porshe GT3s and Toyota open-wheelers all gunning for New Zealand Championship points. The BMW Mini Challenge and races for Formula Fords and NZ Production Cars complete an extensive programme.

The $295 and $90 prices mentioned in the article appear to be for a 3-day ticket; so presumably race-day prices will be cheaper?

Pressumably the "grandstands" will be temporary seating of some sorts?,cause when I drove past the track last week there were no 30,000 seat grandstands in sight. And $60 is a bit steep for sitting on your bum on a grass bank all day.
Taupo is only 1 hour from Rotorua or 2 from Tauranga so accomodation should be no problem if you dont mind a bit of a drive, but there will no be a traffic jam trying to get in.

Temporary grandstands are being sourced from China.

Went past the track again today, presumably the "grandstand" seating will all be along the grass embankment along the back straight,as its really the only spectator area there is?.

It better not be along the back straight or I want my money back!

There will be 5,000 available for general admission which is on grass embankments, I guess that might be the area you are talking about.

One of the frustrations when buying my ticket on the official web site was that I could not see where the grandstand I was buying a ticket for will be located.

Is anyone else going to Taupo? Booking accommodation is proving to be a pain. Taupo info centre are not answering emails. I am wondering if I should just book something in Rotorua and be done with the hassle.

Anyone else out there having a similar experience?
