SRO Revival Series

Reading on DSC about the new for 07 revival series and i for one am very excited about it!!!!

a chance to see the "proper" gt1 cars from BPR and Gt racing in the 90's will be excellent and i shall definately be at the silverstone round to see 30 of these cars bombing around.

Porsche GT1 Vs Mclaren F1 all over again!!! (hopefully)

How many classic GT1 cars are being kept in running/restored condition though?

I'd be very surprised (albeit pleasantly so) if there were more than a tiny handful of GT1s on that grid

A 911 GT2 vs Venturi Challenge doesn't excite!

looks more like a pipe dream to me...

much as I would love to see GT-1 stuff about, nobody has that kind of cash to get anyhting like a decent regular grid...

Look how much effort Group-C is...

Just posted a comment on the FIA GT thread that echoes the comments above, I heard that the EMKA McLaren is for sale and if Greasley still owns the Porsche and drivers can do more than one race we could see Wallinder against Sugden again, add the Vipers for Dean or Luby and so on, could be great.

Allegedly Rowan Atkinson now owns it. He's been known to take to the racetracks in vintage Astons every now and again, so who knows?

I understood that it was Atkinson who had just sold it, he bought it from the O'Rourke estate I thought

Please, please, please Can someone give me more info on this series.
A website or soemthing would be great. This sounds quite a cool series and the Mclaren F1 is my favourite road racing sportscar so I'm keen to know about this series!
Thanks

Why bother when you can go historic Group C racing in far more evocative cars, or if your into GT's buy a modern 911 RSR or Aston DBR9.

We're going to see basic GT2/3 cars that have become obsolete from the likes of Belcar and Euro GT, the odd Marcos amongst hordes of GT2 Turbos.

I think we have to wait and see what turns up at Silverstone. Even if it's one McLaren or Porsche GT1 against a horde of Venturis and Porsche GT2s, it's worth it in my book!

Seems you got your wish geeteeeone, according to Autosport the man who suggested the idea to Ratel was Paul Knapfield who has just bought the EMKA McLaren. He has raced all sorts of things and recently has been in historics although I remember him in a Porsche in BGT some years ago and his partner was Tim Sugden who of course was the main driver in for O'Rourke at EMKA in the 90s, I wonder if we will see Sugden in the Mclaren with Knapfield at Silverstone? Now what we need is Greasley's 911 to make your dream come true eh?

Fantastic news - in fact McLaren 024R (the ex O'Rourke car) is a particular favourite of mine... haven't seen her for 8 years... it's like being reunited with an old flame!

I hope John Greasley does bring the Blue Coral Porsche out to play. He brought it out in 2005 at the Walter Hayes Trophy meeting, but perhaps this time he might actually put some new tyres on it...

I suspect you're right, but if a historic series for GT1/2 cars is going to happen, it has to start somewhere. As I remember, the early historic Group C races didn't always feature brilliant lineups either. It might be that the market isn't ready for a historic GT1 series yet , but there's only one way we're going to find out...

But what is actually available? You're not going to see a 911 GT1 EVO, or a Toyota GT-One, or Nissan R390. Not sure about the MB stuff. I know a few were in privateer hands, but not many. It will mostly be Mclarens, the older 911 GT1s, and maybe the odd Lotus.

I think there is a GTL in the USA. The GT2 (later GT1) cars ran in 1999 and should be eligible and there are a few of those around.
