All the best Bazz, hope you get on top this setback mate. Me and Moff were only commenting last night that we hadn't heard from Bazz on RPM in a while last night.

The following media statement was released by SEL, Sydney this afternoon on behalf of Barry Sheene:
Media Release from Barry Sheene Friday, August 23, 2002 On July 22nd I was diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus and upper stomach. Although this is a complete “pain in the arse” it happens to a lot of people and a lot of people get over it. I will do everything within my power to beat this thing. I and my family would appreciate privacy at this time so I can get on with fighting this in my own way. At this time I feel there is nothing more for me to add and I thank all my well-wishers for their thoughts. |

echo those sentiments - best of luck Mr Sheene - he was what a proper racer is all about, not bad in cars too.

Best of all, you did great things on the track - then you come along and are just as entertaining off the blessed track! Most of us here in Australia missed seeing you race (unfortunately, mores the pity) but you have endeared yourself to a lot of us. Get well real soon and get back up of your arse and back on the telly where you belong!! Cheers, the thoughts of my family and I are with you and yours.. Hey Guys, there is also a bunch of messages about Bazza under the Aussie V8 forum - maybe the two could be linked somehow - nothing should be too much trouble - after all we are talking about Baz!!

275GTB-4 - I posted both threads in here and the V8 forum because of his background in bikes and his current work in Australian V8 commentary.
AFAIK there was/is no way to link the two threads in different forums unfortunately. |

20 years ago whilst walking through Crawley town centre who should we bump into only Barry, As he only lived down the road in charlwood with Steph it was not uncommon to have a few words with him (very approachable chap), but on this occasion my wife was 8 1/2 months pregnant and as we had a good old chat with him, mainly about his neighbours complaining about the noise of his Helicopter landing, he was so friendly that it was at that moment that we decided that if we had a boy he would be BARRY, well we had a son and of course we named him Barry. I feel sure that with his strong attitude he will overcome this setback, like he has overcome many other setbacks in his life, and myself and all other residents of crawley wish him a speedy recovery.
good luck Barry |

Ah I was sad to see the news on Barry.
He was my childhood hero, I have always disliked Suzuki alot but not while he was riding it. I hope you beat it, he is one of the best ever. |

In todays Melbourne Herald-Sun there was an article stating that Barry has rejected chemotherapy in lieue of natural remedies:
http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/com...E12173,00.html Whilst I respect his decision, I believe this does not sound good. |

I was rather concerned to see that barry has opted for natural remedies rather than traditional Chemo - i do beleive that natural remediies have their place alongside chemo ect, but not as a stand alone treatment. I am speaking from my own personal experience. I can only presume that barry's cancer may be terminal and they only offered him Chemo to prolong his life and not as a cure.I know that doctors offer chemo- to terminal patients to give them a bit more time but sometimes the patient is not prepared to put up with the side effects when they only have a short time to go. I know this all sounds very depressing but i do hope this is not the case and that Barry will indeed make a good recovery. Please all you ten-tenthers in Ozz please keep us in the U.K. up to date with any news. (p.s. my tumour was treated five years ago and i am fit and well).
On a lighter note my son has just returned from Australia, started in Cairns finished in sydney. on his first day in Sydney some bloke asked him outside the opera house if he would like free tickets to see some Budhist bloke give a talk, well being a student and hearing the words free he took him up on his offer. Well when he got inside the Budhist bloke turned out to be the Dali Lhama hardly some Budhist Bloke. |

pauldavid - I suspect the same about Barry - hopefully we are wrong, but, I guess it will have to be faced sooner or later.
Re your son - I trust that he enjoyed the talk by the 'buddhist bloke' and his trip downunder - pity he didn't make it to the sporting capital of Australia (Melbourne ) |

Update on Barrys condition - looks like he has given up on some of the alternative medicines. |

Man, I hate to see someone like Barry have this form of cancer. He was a superbike legend along with Kenny Roberts and Freddie Spencer in the 500cc category.
