Roof blows off the Wing!
More problems at Silverstone as apparently a large section of the roof blew off the wing last night...

Joe says it happned last night. It actually happened on Sunday during the BARC meeting, thankfully they were running on the National circuit with the Aston/Ferrari experience running on the other layout. They were red flagged immediately and called a halt to the day, the BARC meeting was unaffected. The photo on Joe's page (and Twitter) certainly shows the hole being a lot larger than the Sunday one, so it probably did get worse overnight. Here's an image from an Instagram user who took it on Sunday afternoon. Photo credit to the user.
Also, according to Graham Goodwin of DSC, around half of the grandstand covering at Becketts blew off. |

-- it will nonetheless be an additional problem that the circuit can do without this year, as it prepares for the British GP in June
Yes Joe... surely the only series that will race at the track this year and has to worry about this! |

Obviously the idi .... architect who designed it failed to use a wind tunnel, as the roof clearly lacks downforce, I suggest that Silverstone contact Red Bull and see if Adrian Newey could come up with a new wing!

According to reports from Silverstone themselves, the damage is largely cosmetic and will not affect this coming weekend's BRSCC meeting (which I'll be at), nor the WEC.

Any reason why this is in the F1 forum particularly?

Saward is an F1 hack, he follows the F1 circus across the planet and lives in Paris when he isn't living F1. He's not going to see much beyond F1.
I had for a split second thought that some Silverstone manager had said that, which would be a million times worse. Fortunately, that fear proved ill founded on this occasion. |

It's clearly been blown up out of all proportion, time to put a lid on it.

So that will be another £10 on top for every WEC / BTCC / Classic ticket then?

Maybe but still hundreds of euros cheaper than limited access for Grand Prix though

Silverstone GP is very worthwhile if you want to know how it feels to be a battery hen.

Roof blows off the Wing!
God forbid we actually talk about something that has happened. Let's be outraged that our favourite series hasn't been mentioned. Or use it as a cheap way to put a dig in. Although it is good to know that everyone is so passionate about the CSCC meet in early May.
It is all drearily predictable, to borrow Nigel Roebuck's comment from the latest Motorsport. It is always windy at Silverstone. It seems slightly higher than the surrounding area and of course is a flat old airfield. I hope they get it fixed soon. Certainly before May when the important meeting happens. I'm there before that so will report on progress. I can't really tell how much work is needed? Edit: Silverstone seems relatively optimistic in this article http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england...shire-32141042 |

a friend formerly of this parish engaged in the building biznis agrees with silverstone that it appears to just be surface damage (where's the "tis but a scratch" python knights that say ni gif?), and that it'll be easily and quickly repairable.
to be fair to those pointing out saward has his thumb up his backside, they're right - the wec race is far far closer and far more likely to be ~at risk as a result of the wind damage than f1. but as it is, if the wind drops for long enough for the work to be done and the materials are on a short lead time all will be well |

Roof blows off the Wing!
It cut them deep to see F1 mentioned. Also to be fair to them it tends it be the only way they post too. It's just so boringly repetitive to me though.
FWIW, I'm going to at least three meetings at Silverstone this year. None of them are the GP. I didn't feel the need to give a monkeys, I get over it by not reading Joe and trying to enjoy life. Good news that it seems superficial and all should be well. It is quite a nice sunny still day there today, so hopefully there is progress. |

I'm sure if there was a major safety issue effecting the WEC round, they would switch to the old pits?
