Good news from Castle Combe

I'm pleased to see that Castle Combe's season opener on Saturday March 25th will now be OPEN to the public.

According to info inside the season guide they've managed to make an agreement with the MSA.

On paper it looks like one of their best meetings of the year with the Formula Vees, Caterhams etc and it was a shame that it was set to be staged behind closed doors.

Common sense from the MSA.

And hopefully a cracking start for Castle Combe's new racing club.

Sorry, I've been sleeping, what was the problem? Why was it to be behind closed doors - was it a problem with CCRC?

Rob.

What on earth has the SUNBAC meeting the next day got to do with it?

racing59 - the problem was that a new club normally needs to run behind closed doors first, before it can run a public event. However, it looks like an exemption was granted, probably because of the experience of the senior officials.

I think the rule is that they have to run two meetings behind closed doors. I imagine you are right regarding the senior officials Ian as I believe the same exemption has been granted to MSVR because they have a great deal of the old BRDC guys as senior officials.

Didn't MSVR serve their apprenticeship as BHRC last year though? I though MSVR was just a name change?

Don't think so Ian, as I understand it they too got a waiver.

Thought the first BHRC meeting was run behind closed doors at Cadwell? I know it wasn't promoted. Although I suppose it could just have been that nobody turned up because it was raining!

Where did this info come from and when will it be made official??

A phone call to Combe last Tuesday got the reply "No spectators allowed I'm afraid".......................

When will we know for sure?

If it is in the spectator guide I think we can assume it is official. Steve Burns (of CCRC) posted on the Combe forum last week to confirm that spectators would be admitted, but that a few details needed to be confirmed before they put out a press release.

Reading this thread and those on the Combe forum, you do get the impression that you get a different story depending on who you talk to in the Combe office, but I would have faith in what Steve says.

Ah, marshals get in free and don't have these problems. I've just signed up to go see another 46 days racing this year, not a penny shall I pay for any of it

Anyway enough banging of that drum...

I think the case that CCRC made was that the break from the BRSCC was made to ensure that specator numbers could be maintained. Therefore what was the point in the penalty of loosing one of their days when there were no organisational changes on race days? Combe can only race on a very limited number of days, so it would have been a big penalty for them. I'll be very pleased if sense has prevailed here

I wouldn't like to say why other cases didn't have the same outcome. Let's just be glad that the right decision has hopefully been taken.

It would have been real shame to have the first meeting of the year behind closed gate's!!

Its one of if not the best start to a season i can remember even so season pass holders would have been allowed in so i'd not missed anythinhg thank god

they would've let the public in to without paying - a pass system that needed application. that's irrelevant now however anyways

I I were you Mr Green, I would keep out of the way of certain ex-BRDC senior officials who might not see themselves as old.

Also as Ian said, it depends who you talk to in the office...! But it was put up on the Combe forum and again, as Ian said, there was a couple of more things to happen / be clarified before the press release.

A sensible outcome has finally been sorted out. I never imagined the MSA would change their mind but hats off to them for seeing sense. Would have been such a shame for ,what on paper looks to be a cracking meeting, to be held behind partly closed doors. Hoping there is a healthy turnout to support the new regime. Cant wait.
