...thanks to Bertrand Gatchot
I was thinking the other day, if it was not for Gachot getting 6 months in prison, in 1991, for attcking a British cabby TGF would never have got his chance and may still be an unknown, driving sports cars even today. How different would F1 be now if this had happened?

Well, Damon Hill would be a two time WDC, and Ferrari would have gone more than 20 years without a WDC (as it should be), so, the world would be a much better place.

If this had happened then I believe TGF would be a Mclaren driver now having come into the team with Mercedes, perhaps as part of the deal. He would be in F1 today but the sport would still be fundamentally different, particuly given Mclarens 'two drivers to a team' policy.

You just stated the very reason Shumi would never drive for Ron Dennis - his head is too big to fit a "co-No. 1" into the same garage. RD was able to get Senna and Prost to co-habitate, but can you imagine Shumi having to share the No. 1 label? It wouldn't happen, at least not at this point in his career.
If he had broken in with McLaren, he would have split as soon as possible to drive for someone who would let him control the whole show and who would build a car around him, i.e., he would end up at Ferrari one way or another. |

So...would Peter Sauber have gone for Heinz-Harald Frentzen in 1993, or Michael Schumacher?

And now Sauber is powered by Ferrari … you see how there is a conspiracy here to make Shumi drive for the Prancing Horse, thereby making us as miserable as possible?

Okay i'd assume that this is all talks-for-laughs...u cant be serious right?
So i guess somebody have to thank Senna for having a race seat too?? And i heard that Damon Hill wasnt actually Frank's idea of a driver too...but due to the lack of good drivers...Head then thought they should let Hill give it a go due to his technical feedback more than racing qualities... Luck comes to everyone, its those who exploit their luck that succeeds. Michael would still make a name in motorsports be it Bertrand or not |

Wasn't Gachot a director of Pacific Racing by that time?

This is positive evidence of the conspiracy theory : Gachot was framed.

If only Gachot had'nt got jailed...
Thinkhow different things would be. The chain events would have been different. Zealot, Hill would not have been a 2 times WDC. Think about it - the chain of events that led to Senna's death would not have occured. He wouldn't have been pushing as hard at the time of the accident. N.B I am not trying to blame TGF for Ayrton's tragic death. I am just making the point that things would have happened very differently. Last edited by DNQ; 13 Jul 2001 at 06:59. |

I was blind, but now I can see! It's so simple - let's blame all the accidents in the past decade on one person! The others were only trying to stay on his pace, and they crashed as a consequence. That's the easy way, and since we hate him anyway, we will disregard any common sense! That was NOT funny, man!

This is just a light hearted speculation. As I said before, if it hadn't have been for Mr and Mrs Schumacher, a bottle of Neirstiener and some soft lighting we wouldn't have a devalued champion to discuss. |

Oh, I get it, it's all just a big joke! Let me tell you a story. A car-mag editor was testing a new BMW 3-series coupe. He stopped at the traffic lights, and sure enough there were a couple of kids in a MkI Golf (older than the two of them together) stopping next to him, revving the poor thing's engine to the max, obviously intending to race him to the next traffic lights. The guy paid no attenion to them. The lights turned to green, the Golf speared forwards, tyres squealing, engine screaming. The youngsters obviously enjoyed leaving a brand new BMW behind. Naturally, the editor, an expeienced driver and a sensible man, didn't want to get involved in this childish game, and he started from the lights in a normal way. The kids raced into the distance, but instead of stopping at the next traffic lights, the brakes on their car failed and they slammed into a van. Both died instantly. In your court, the editor would probably end up in jail (or gas-chamber?), just for being there and giving those poor boys a reason for road-rage. Or would you point out to the car-maker for producing a car which looks, sounds and goes so good that other drivers just can't resist trying to race them, even at the risk of fatal crashes? I mean, jokes are jokes, and I don't like taking things too seriously either, but there are certain things which cannot (and should not) be taken lightly. Or is it just me...

Mr Devlin,
I'm not quite sure where you are coming from here so I'll just repeat that I don't believe this to be a serious thread and leave you to your own opinions. Bouncey, I thought you were already in counselling. |

Mr. Mallett,
You're not sure where I'm coming from? I'll tell you - the same direction which Villeneuve was coming from when JPM accused him of killing that track marshall. But, maybe that was a joke too? I didn't see anyone laugh... All I'm saying is that some things (such as someone getting killed in an accident) are just a bit too serious (and in this partuicular case tragic) for someone to be joking with. Such twisted humor's not really funny. To me, at least. Anyway, I'm off for a weekend of sunshine and sea, so I guess I'll just leave you having fun. |
