Simmons ride maybe short lived
Apparently Jeff Simmons may not have the Patrick ride for too long.
another IPS driver Thiago medeiros will be testing the No.20 car soon and is a possibility for the drive. I dunno much about Thiago but with a name like that he's gotta be quick  Shame really if they replace Jeff considering his effort at Indy and so far this weekend at kansas has done a pretty good job. I hope Jeff stays in the seat. |

The track record of IPS drivers so far is not impressive in IndyCar, although Thiago was decent in SudAm F3.

Thiago has been winning races in the IPS for Sam Schmidt. Sam aims to come back to the IndyCar Series full time with Thiago as the driver.

Is that next year DF ???
Maybe thats the plan then , get him in at Patrick to gain some experience before going full time next year ? As I said though this is only a test drive so it maybe just that to gain his licence or something but you never know. |

It'd be wonderful to have Sam back full-time, he's a really pleasant guy and somewhat heroic. Thiago looks okay int he IPS, but as discussed elsewhere that means very little. Jeff has proven himself and showed more potential at every stage of his career.

I don't think Roberto can cut it anymore, and he certainly doesn't have the motivation to risk it on ovals anymore. His return to CART in 2003 was a gamble that didn't pay off. GTs would be perfect for him, but I'd rather see a young talent like Jeff behind the wheel.

Thiago was scheduled to test in the Patrick car at Kansas on Monday and Tuesday but that was postponed because of the accident. Jaques Lazier is going to test the #20 car at Michigan in the Chevy manufactures test next Tuesday and then race the car at Nashville. Patrick wanted some stability in the car right now and someone to sort out the chassis with a different engineer. I think Jaques will get them going in the right direction but I expect Patrick to test Thiago before the year is out and possibly put him in the car for next year.

Thanks TO. With Jacques in, they've probably got more chance of getting on the pace. He's probably not among the best drivers, but he's one fo the few talented experienced ones who's out of a ride.
