Does anyone know why Michael's own voice has been overdubbed on that L'Oreal ad?

Suggested Reasons TGF is overdubbed:
1. He charges extra to do his own voice. 2. Nobody could understand his own voice. 3. He could not stop laughing in the middle of the takes. 4. Shampoo made him sneeze so he had to hold his breath. 5. Voiceovers done by Gaston Mazzacane who works cheaper. |

This ad is typical of the crappy pan-european ad's that the big brands are coming out with. I agree it is awful. To use a 'celebrity' but not his voice - show me the sense in that.
However the Ron Dennis, Siemens ad (do you find it creepy?), still gets my vote as the worst. How any marketing brain can have thought that was a good idea is beyond me - really bad.... |

Well, come on! Do they really need the money? Besides, what looks better on a Ferrari, Asprey's and Garrard or flippin' Tic-Tac? I just always thought Ferrari had a bit of class (which is one of the many reasons why I'm tiffosi). Oh well.

The secret is out!
They announced the tape on which Schumacher did the commercial in English wasn't any good. Since they had a deadline to bring it out they dubbed his voice. Willi Weber, his manager has said they are annoyed with that and they want to do the whole thing over. Why? Because he's worth it! |

*reads....and has a complete tantrum..beating my fists on my desk and tears welling up in my eyes*
Why? oh why? dont we get all these ads over here in Australia?? maybe if I start a campaign and get everyone to get an oar out in the sea...in a few years, we could be close enough to Europe to see, to be worthy of such advertising... I just GOT to see the Ron Dennis one... anyone got video stream? Cheers! |

I demand that they show that outtake! The Murray Walker/Damon Hill Pizza Hut commercials were funny, but the outtakes were even funnier.

Here we can see Frank Williams speaking some words in portuguese,
for a Petrobras ad... no overdub. BTW, if anyone wants to see some information about Williams/Petrobras http://www.petrobras.com.br/f1/index.htm |

Excellent site! How's Sir Frank's accent? Is he believable in Portuguese? I am really curious how effective it is for people to do advertising in a language not their own. Is it better for them to use their own voices, however they sound, than have someone who speaks the language fluently overdub them, or use subtitles?

Sir Frank seems to be multilingual - I remember a Veltins ad where he spoke German, no overdub. And the way he said "frische reifen"...hillarious!
