Hockenheim 2000 - Barrichello's Best Drive
I thought that the memories of Rubens Barrichello's excellent drive from 18th to 1st at Hockenheim 2000 deserves it's own thread. His best drive ever and this race also sums up just how good the old Hockenheim circuit was for overtaking.

I think his best ever drive was Donnington 93 . In his rookie year , in terrible conditions he got a dog that a car called the J193 with a Yamaha engine up to 2nd place at one point . He retired in the end with a car problem .

On barrichellos drive in 2000 in hockenheim it was rumored that barrichello had some form of traction control. many drivers agreed . |

Thats right EJ ., thanks ..im getting confused with the 92 works engine deal they had that turned out to be a pile of pants .
but i still stick the race though . Donnington 93 was a great drive for rubens as such a early point in his F1 career . |

i didn't think it was a particuarly stunning drive, however on paper it looks stunning. it was definately a time in F1 that i was pleased to witness - it was such a great moment watching Rubens break down into tears for a win he fully deserved.

I have never heard the traction control theory, but it would make a lot of sense... Either way, it WAS a stunning drive...

Ricardo Zonta would have been the real star of that race had he not braked an inch too late on lap in the hairpin and gone off. He was still on drys and would have finished 2nd

One thing bugs me about drivers like RB!... he made a big fuss when the car failed (Magny-Cours), but when he screws up as he did in practice for Hockenheim, there he is all sweetness and light, waving to the crowd, smiling in the garage as the mechanics have to sort it all out...how would it look if 'THEY' threw a tantrum too...when their hard work is wasted by the drivers errors?

I agree that it was Ruby's best race...what a memory! And his emotions on the podium...and it was Hockenheim, so it gets another plus from me
We have so many threads like this...like we lost a person. And in some way, we did. Everything with the character can be personalized. How depressing the whole thing is.... |

It was a great drive, but Rubens was certainly helped by that nutter, otherwise it would have been a McLaren 1-2 easily.
But still, one of the best races I've seen and certainly one of the most favourable outcomes. |

If not for the intruder on the back straight Hakkinen would have won the race. Apart from that RB did well. I would have been stoked if he could have held his lead in The Stewart at Brazil in 1999 and won.

Good point Valve
In terms of 'good drive" Europe and Austria this year are no worse than Hockenheim 2000 for Rubens, because although that race was fantastic (my fav. race EVER), the on track invader, weather and safety cars helped him along. But of coures, he read the moment well and did everything 100%. |

IMO, Silverstone this year as well as Austria were as good as Hockenheim (and without the Nutter!!!!) |

Yes VB, Austria was probably his best ever race, but we all know what happened. But that first win in Hockenheim was extra sweet because it was so unexpected and came about through the weirdest topsy-turvy conditions.
