HSCC Anounces Historic Touring Car Legends

I wrote this earlier in the week. It got quite a bit of traction on FB although much of it was about costs/cheating etc. We've been discussing the level of entries at Brands this weekend so what are your thoughts on this?

Caveat: I've raced with HSCC, MRL, Masters and HRDC (although the latter's cars only affect MRL's Tony Dron Trophy) and generally I've found these organisations to be good for competitors.

https://mallettracing.com/2024/05/23...racing-series/

Any thoughts?

Speedy norm should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Surely the answer is to impose an 86 cut off , would this bring out the Rovers and BMW 635's ? Not sure where this puts the M3 .
Peter Auto seem to get healthy grids

Well yes, but that's not what they are doing. The M3 and Sierra Cosworth were post 86.

I think so, but I'll be interested to see what happens. As I said there are lots of pre 1986 Group A cars just not coming out. Ric Wood sponsors the MRL HTC so he's unlikely to want to remove the post 86 cars, so I wonder if a new class structure will be proposed?

A suitable class structure is required if all these types or cars are to tun in the same series. Even if it ends up being double figures!

Or serious talks should takr place about one of the series specifically catering for upto 1986 cars and the other for 1987 onwards?

I could see that working although cars like Mark Burton's lovely VLSS Holden Commodore would be better suited to the older era!!

Same thoughts here..

Seems like caterimg for same cars as the current MRL series!

To make a real difference this new series should be for Gr.2, pre'86 Gr.A and later Gr.1 on slicks...

Looking at live timing on tsl it appears Rick Wood has turned up in his Skyline and obliterated the field .
Agree, it should be earlier Gp A / GP 1

It sounded a real beast of a car and well driven by Ric Wood.

Whereas the Sierra RS500's gave a little hiss on the overrun as they changed up the Skyline gave several loud bangs and loads of flame from the exhaust.
Impressive.

Ric is a pretty good peddler and the godzillas are spectacular. But they are inappropriate for the category, which is exactly why international Group A died.

Having spent my first weekend in orange overalls in exactly 52 weeks, I must say that the Touring Car Legends were an enormous disappointment for me. Nowhere near enough cars, unfortunately. Too much disparity in performance, and too long a race.

It's a shame because I was really looking forward to it.

Some of the other races did make up for that though!

There is no point running a series for the same periods of cars as the MRL one!

HSCC should leave MRL to cater for the later cars abd concentrate of promotimg the older cars, of which there are a great many needimg a proper, semsibly run series to race im.

I agree - disappointing grid, but there was a bit of close racing in the mid-pack...

And its also disappointing to see the old " Bybox " series for pre 66 saloons all but gone with no stand alone series for them.

Not wanting to hijack the thread too much, but dose anyone know what happened to the the ThunderSports for this meeting? They only had 2 meetings this years, this one and Croft but it disappeared from this one and hasn't be mentioned since.

Lack of entries, I believe. There was an attempt to plug the gap at Donington with some allcomers races, which were also canned due to a lack of cars.
