Roll Cages
Forgive me if this has been discussed before, but I have a couple of queries and wondered if someone more knowlegable than me could help.
Firstly I have a new FIA cage Safety Devices, for an MGB. This is an homologated cage. But with no door bars. As I understand it, if I weld on saddles and have bolt on door bars, it becomes unhomologated. But if I use the SD horrible clamp arrangement, that is a method of fixing that is not approved. So if I want door bars, and want to keep it FIA what do I do?? Secondly another MGB with a P+P cage. Front legs have 2 slight bends in them. What are my options apart from getting a new cage built!! I would have thought another tube across one of the bends would suffice. Maybe Jeremy can advise? Many thanks Colin |

I bought my cage from MGB Hive. It is an SD cage and we have bolt on door bars. Passed scrute at the Classic and Spa 6hrs.

You're OK if you produce the homologation certificate, I'm just having the same conversation with RollCentre re the 924 cage. As you bought them both new there should be no problem, give them a ring.
RC told me that you are allowed to have one bend to follow the windscreen line, and one further bend - i.e. two bends take the bar from the horizontal to the vertical. |

If the roll cage is sprayed to match the car, then make sure the bar code or homologation stamp is masked off. The scrutes look for it when they check the car.

See rule K1.3.5e and drawing K62 in the Blue book, a straight tube from top to bottom will do it.

You just need the homologation papers, as Peter et al have mentioned. I have a Safety Devices cage with bolt in door bars bought from MG Hive that I retrofitted (in my FIA B); it's passed FHR, Equipe GTS, CSCC and HSCC scrutineering so far. If you're ever in the Eskdale pop over and have a look.. All the best Simon 07793 888137 |
