Tony Newman
What is happening with the Tony Newman Peugeots? They are great looking cars. With Dwayne Bewley behind the wheel those cars fly. Newman should become team manager and put two young chargers behind the wheel.

Yeah, his Peugeot looked fab, but last season it went like a brick, and hardly ever made it to race day...I dont think a young charger would fix the problem, more like a large injection of $$...

The cars have always looked the part but never really showed there full potential in Aus. What I couldn't understand was in 1997 he had the two older 405's running beautifully, fast and fairly reliable, then he picked up the 406 and was slow and unreliable.
I hope if he can't put them on the track this year , some one else can. |

Newman's pug never seemed to recover from the off he had at the end of the main straight at Calder in Round 1 in 1998.

But I don't think that off explains all of the engine dramas...

I reckon regardless of whether they have mechanical dramas, someone has to get these cars racing. They are too good to waste. They are great for the series as they are the prettiest race cars out there. I just hope someone with the money, talent and commitment can get a hold of them. Or I just hope that Newman has got them sorted himself- both of his cars- and that he puts two young blokes behind the wheel.
Actually.... WAYNE WAKEFIELD AND JOHN HENDERSON. What a team that would be! |

Top team, what about Dwayne Bewley, he did a top job at Oran Park last year with minimal testing and hadn't driven a ST for some time.
I don't think Newman owns the cars though, i heard from Allan Gurr Newman had the cars taken from him by the owner, as Newman only leased them, because Newman wasn't paying his way. |

so who owns the Peugeots and where are they? Surely someone who owned those cars would want to race them?
Bewley? Yeah, he's good, they need to source a third car or, better still, get the Paul Grimm's two 98 spec cars, one for Bewley, the other for Alan Gurr. |
