F1 attacks Le Mans
http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/06/...1.1-282919.php
F1 gets a bit insecure about the growing appeal and relevancy of sportscar racing and the potential threat posed by the EVO rules. Ron Dennis should know better. It is a race for the whole 24 hours, its a 24 hour sprint. The only difference is that you dont make so many risky manouvers. Same goes for Ross Brawn. Pacing yourself? Back in the 80's that was true of LM. Like eveyone says, its a 24 hour sprint. Quote:

F1 cars pace themselves at the end of races quite often these days..!
I don't really see it as F1 attacking Le Mans. Your thread title is more sensationalist than that article. |

As someone else has pointed out, its all very coordinated and somewhat reminiscent of the attacks on CART in the last 1990s.

They haven't been dropped, but they haven't been written in the rule book either. Kind of a limbo.

There's usually an F1 race on Le Mans weekend, and I'm sure Kubica had races before he was in F1 on the same weekend. If he's not interested, why should he take the time to watch it, even if he's not busy?
Le Mans is not a sprint all the time. |

Imho that "24 hour sprint" is more of a saying than true. Super reliable diesels have proven you can run flat out 24 hours, but they don't because it's very very risky. But from some of those comments you can read between the lines odd dislike, which is interesting from such persons. - Last edited by deggis; 16 Jun 2008 at 21:33. |

And it was great that there was no F1 GP clash this time (don't know about next year as F1 calendar is not yet locked, hopefully not!). It was reported there were a lot more reporters in Le Mans that would normally be reporting about F1 GP. Last edited by deggis; 16 Jun 2008 at 21:44. |

If a chicken could speak, it would say more intelligent things than kubica and all the others formula 1 establishment members.
They are only interested to money and business. Nothing else. Spy stories, thieves... You can't find anything of this in the Endurance. Here you can find only the real motorsport essence: courage, greatful drivers, cars and teams, wonderful races and fair play. They afraid for endurance rebirth, because they know all this. They know endurance is better than their false, dirty world. |

On the same car, McNish or Minassian would beat up without any problem the polish flying chicken kubica...
Sorry, Mr.Chicken... your ignorance is greater than all the distance run by Audi in the last Le Mans... |

Jackie Stewart expressed the same comments as Kubica in his book, but at least he gave it go.
Stirling Moss I think has also said stuff along the same lines in the past. |

How about a Ferrari F430 and a BMW M3 next year in GT2, with drivers in the Ferrari M Schumacher, K Raikonen and F Massa, and in the BMW R Kubica, N Heidfeld and M Asmer.

I think it's taking it a little too far to say that F1 drivers wouldn't perform well at Le Mans. The F1 drivers @ Le Mans are ones that had only very little sucess in F1, for the most part.
I think the battle for the overall win (and likely for the classes) took quick laps. Only in the last hour or two, did TK have some laps when he probably took it a little easier not to have a silly mistake. |

Come to think of it, who is the last driver that have raced at Le Mans while doing F1 that year?
My guess is Irvine in 1994. Anyone more recent? |

Montagny did some races (not a whole season) one year for SA, that must have been 2006.

Le Mans and F1 both involve vehicles with an engine and wheels.
Cheapo beefburgers (just) and fillet steak both involve cows. Beefburgers aren't meat; F1 isn't motor racing. I'll stick to my fillet steak and LM Please keep F1 people out of LM |
