What's your favourite moment of 2007?

In sportscar racing, it's been a hell of a year. From Sebring and THAT GT2 battle, to Spa, where Vitaphone lost it with a spin so close to the end. From Peugeot's dominant debut at Monza, to the stunning race at PLM. And Martin Short's defeat in the Seceratary's Challenge (Walter Hayes Trophy) was as much fun as anything else.

So what's your moment of the year?

I'm gonna go with
a) my first ever Spa trip to the 24 hours, which was such an excellent experience and a great race.

b) The last lap of Sebring in GT2. If all sportscar racing was like this, noone would watch anything else. DAMN.

I think the 24H of Le Mans was simply my best moment this year...

ill get lynched for saying this but if im wholey honest my favorite sportscar moment of 2007 was not lemans or silverstone 1000km or the FIA GT, it was petit lemans, lemans for my first time was absolutely terrific, standing just before the braking point for the entry to the porsche curves at 5:30 in the morning with the sun slowly rising with the morning mist and the sound of the pescarolo and charouz lola wailing towards me is seared into my memory.

it was astonishing and the start of lemans was something i will never forget it was insane, an explosion of sound, colour and how can i forget the dutch at lemans, smothered in a haze of orange red smoke, it was fabulous and i absolutely loved it

but petit was better, the cars were so much louder, the atmosphere was something more than lemans with the cars, lemans was more fun but petit was more of a spectacle because of the extra noise and the fact arena, my favorite team were there.

the silverstone 1000km was absolutely brilliant as well, i was windswept and sunburnt and it was bloody wonderful, it was a fabulous day and the fading light at the end of the race created an astonishing backdrop towards the end.

for me 2007 has been an epic year, its one i will never forget, the wailing pescarolos and charouz lola, the ecstatic and gutsy crowds of lemans, the earbleeding scream of the zyteks and ferrari F430's at petit and failing to stay awake for the whole 24 hours of lemans, next year is going to have to be something very very special to compete with 2007.......

Yeah i slept at spa :/

I intend to stay awake at whichever 24 hours i do this (next, 2008) year- i intend Spa or LM and the britcar.

And yes, 2008 is gonna have to be F**KING AWESOME or better to beat 2007. It might just be...

For me 2 favorite moments.

First one was Montoya winning the Daytona 24. Great victory of him and his teammates, never expected him winning in a sportscar race.

And second favorite moment was Aston Martin finnanly winning Le Mans after 2 earlier attempts.

In 2008 i am going to visit Le Mans for the first time, so I hope they can do the same.

My favourite moment from 2007 was being in the pit lane at Silverstone FIA GT, ive been in pit lanes before but there is nothing quite like the sound of hearing the Corvettes turning over in their pit boxes.

Other than that Laguna Seca was awesome too with the end of the race battle between Penske and Audi, so close but not quite close enough for the Penske Porsche's.

Agreed on the pitlane. Watched a few Spa stops from the boxes, and above too, and the was a Carsport one and damn, the noise as Fassler hooned it out of the pitbox...

Grand Am - Laguna Seca: Alex Job Racing gambled with the fuel big time and
got the yellow flag right at the end of the race just as they needed it. The race finished under yellow and the AJR car was on reserve. Never has a yellow-flag finish been that exciting. Unfortunately it was to be Porsches only victory this year in GA.

Here's one of ten of "the best of 2007." (Some are sports car moments, all are racing.)

Ofcourse Le Mans allways is the topevent of our year allthough the Spa 1000km was very spectacular as well. This years sportscar "desert" we saw in Belgium. The final round of the FIA-GT championship at the circuit of Zolder. It was great feeling the heat of the Lambo's big and spuwing flames just before the last chicane...

However,as we went to Argentina last month,I was taken to Balcarce. The village were Juan Manuel Fangio was born.
We went to see his museum 'cause it was sort of on our way back and it'd be nice to have a peek in this small and forgotten dusty collection...or so we thought.
To our big surprise, what we found was the former cityhall building which was being emptied to occupy a fantastic collection of famous cars! Amongst others were 3 of the man's genuine grand prix champion cars(Maserati 250F,Lancia/Ferrari D50 and Mercedes W196) a Mika Hakkinen McLaren MP4/10 Championship winner as well as an Ayrton Senna McLaren MP4/4.
Also a menacing Mercedes C291 was on display...
All in all,a big collection of beuatifull cars in a spacious and modern museum. A treu and honorable salute to one of the greatest drivers the world has ever seen.

BEST moment of 2007?

Breakfast in the Spa bar behind the grandstand opposite the pits.
Sitting under their awning watching Raidillon in the rain, with coffee and croissant.
With a grinning 18 year old.
Beats anything else by miles.

How could I have forgotten??? Collecting the Media Pass for Tour Brittania was pretty damn special too.
Plus meeting the Johns, Turner and Ruston...

Just don't tell the wife...

I must admit that was pretty damn good.

How about being charged more than the average mortgage for the first morning's coffee and croissant?

Le Mans was great fun as ever, the FIA GT's at Silverstone where fun aswell - anyone remember the keystone cop momment's as they tried to sort the grid for the GT3 race on the Saturday afternoon ?

Oh yes then there was the LMS which was great weekend.

But for me it has to be the Britcar 24 Hours which was just fantastic fun, the hidden gem of British Motorsport.

Petit Le Mans was definitely a great sportscar racing moment.

But for me personally, my favorite moment was Laguna. Mostly because I was there and the race was mega. It was also pretty cool seeing Capello and McNish at the Cannery Row Starbucks the following day. Although, it took me a moment to realize it was McNish, as he was dressed as a pirate!

For me it was my first ever race to atend in real life. The 1000km Spa LMS race.
Really enjoyed it. Luc Alphand Aventures was a real great team to be in the pitbox. The only one where I could walk in (with my Aston Martin shirt) and stay there for about 2hours over two days in the box. Great mechanics who even ordered me(no kidding) to open the doors of the C5-r and C6-r to take pictures inside.
Larbre team was my favourite on for hand, but they didn't even seemed to be bothered with me, when I showed interrest in their team.
So LAA hope you guys win the 2008 LMS

The 2007 'racing' moments which will live longest in my memory (so probably not very long at all ) were Shorty's 4th overall at Le Mans and LNT's early pace with the Zytek at Silverstone.

My 'Tenths' moment of 2007 was watching Paul Collins tape that poster of the yellow pin to the '10Tenths meeting tree' at Le Mans. Genius!

The best moments of 2007 for me:

-Aston Martin beating Corvette at Le Mans
-Porsche beating Ferrari at Le Mans
-Final Lap at Sebring 12h. (Unfortunately Flying Lizard finished in second place).

May 2008 bring us some more close racing!

Aside obviously from various historic meets, my favourites:-

1) Being driven down to Le Mans in my neighbour's Corvette, sharing the road with hundreds of other classic and historic cars (most of which were being driven by Brits!)
2) Seeing Aston win its class on my first visit to Le Mans (yes, really, at the age of 57!)
3) The Britcar 24 hours and witnessing the Duller Z4M win for the second year running.

I work night shifts so I'm used to staying awake at odd hours in a hectic atmosphere, but even I failed to stay awake for the full 24 hours - in the party-ville that is Houx Annexe too!

Le Mans was my highlight - '07 was my first visit, and it certainly won't be my last. My goal in '08 is to stay awake - I missed the sunrise this year, and for that I'm gutted.
