This is the 'dream' line up from autosport:
Minardi Supertec Mika Hakkinen Michael Schumacher Mclaren Mercedes Jaques Villeneuve Juan Pablo Montoya Williams BMW Jenson Button Warren Hughes Ferrari Rubens Barrichello Nigel Mansell or Jean Alesi if Mansell cannot prove race fitness Jaguar Eddie Irvine David Coulthard Third car for US GP driven by Dale Earnhardt jnr or Jeff Gordan Jordan Heinz harold Frentzen Ralf Schumacher Benetton Giancarlo Fisichella Pedro De la Rosa Arrows Antonio Pizzonia Tomas Scheckter BAR Ricardo Zonda Jarno Trulli Sauber Olivier Panis Luciano Burti Prost Sebastien Bourdais David Saelens So it's goodbye to Johnny Herbert, Pedro Diniz, Marc Gene, Alex Wurz, Gaston Mazzacane, Nick Heidfeld and Jos Verstappen. What do you think? Have they got it all wrong? Can you come up with a better line-up? And what would the results be? BTW this is the order that the line up apeared in autosport but it wasn't clear if this is the same order they would be expected to finish in. |

How exactly is this a dream grid?
It looks to me like JV would dominate and easily win the WC if the team strength remained the same. How is that a dream? (unless you are a JV fan) |

I would have included Gene, Jos and Heidfeld, and got rid of TGF, Mika H and Boxhead. Now THAT would be a dream grid...

Oh, but come on, MF, wouldn't you like having the two most successful of the current drivers in your team? Wouldn't you like it just a tiny little bit?!?
And, Jay, no I don't think JV would dominate and win easily if this was the grid. I think it would be pretty close between him and Montoya... |

No I wouldn't. If I had it my way it would be any two from Alesi, Frentzen, Verstappen or Gene in the Minardis.

It looks Ok to me. Perhaps I would leave Zonta out but the rest looks OK.

I wouldn't put Earnhardt jr. or Gordan in an F1 car because they would probably crash at the first right-handed turn!

I guess it perhaps lacks a bit of foresight to put 2 of the bestr drivers in the best car but there are a number of other interesting points in the team mate pairings. How would Schumacher and Hakkinen do in a Minardi - with Supertec engines note - not the 2 year old ford. Frentzen against Ralf in the Jordans would be interesting I think as would Zonta against Trulli at BAR (as Zonta's only ever had Villeneuve as a team mate in F1 it would be interesting to see him paired up against someone else who's pretty highly rated). And how would Nigel Mansell stack up in the Ferrari against today's bunch?

I, too, read the 'Dream Grid' and I reckon it could prove pretty exciting; wonder who'd fight for the title honours, though... |

R, yes Montoya would fght with him just like Zanardi fought M. Schumacher in 98. (hey, most said he would)
It would still be intersting to see how Mika and Micheal did in the Minardis. The Minardis are pretty slick cars. They just need an engine. Also, this grid is assuming that the team strengths would remain the same. I have a feeling there will be some majorf changes next year in the constructors battle. Hello BMW and Honda? |

Ralf going back to Jordan would be the death of his F1 career! It'd be like a life sentence. Since he went to Williams, he just gets better, and I think that for him to leave for a team doing such a poor job would be a pretty dumb move on the part of his management et al.
