Roland Ratzenberger drove Indycars ?
I was just browsing Roland ratzenbergers site www.roland-ratzenberger.com and found a picture of him driving an Indycar.
My memory tells me it is Scott Braytons car from the early 90's I guess here is the link to the picture. does anyone have any info on these happenings at all? I dont remember Roland driving in Cart but then it could have been before I started watching it , anyway I gotta say that car looks great and Roland looked pretty good in it too |

He tested the car in 1991 and apparently was just 0.1s slower than Andretti at the same track.
Instead of going to the USA, Roland tried to get into F1 in 1992 and nearly made it with Jordan, but at the very last moment a sponsor backed off. |

Wasn't Roland Ratzenberger the driver that was killed the same weekend at Imola as Senna was?!

Though I'm confused; What victory lap? Senna died the next day - he didn't win anything inbetween. |

It's not a rumour. In the book that prestigious Portuguese journalist Francisco Santos wrote about Ayrton, he says that before getting into the car, he asked Julian Jakobi to provide him with an Austrian flag, because he was convinced he would win and he wanted to dedicate it to Ratzemberger.
Instead, on the next race, a Brazilian and an Austrian flag were painted on the first two slots of the grid, in Montecarlo |

There's some pictures, numbers 199 and 201, from Finnsh endurance race, Kemora 500, where Ratzenberger drove big Holden on 3rd place with car owner Hannu Kurki-Suonio, year was 1991.

What a lovely story that is. People often say Ayrton as being heartless, obsessed with winning and ruthless, but he clearly had a very human side.
I wasn't aware of Roland's CART links - maybe he'd've done really well in the States. |

I think that he was a great individual, but the only thing that surpassed him and obliterated his judgement was his will to win. It's a fact that in F3 he always crashed while being in second place, not while leading, which shows his obsession for being first.
