MolsonBoy should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Canon EOS 1 D Mark II

EOS 1 D Mark II just released... I think we have a new standard which toi measure digital cameras by. Take a look at some specs:

8.2 megapixels, 8.5 frames per second, 40 frames per burst, ISO speeds from 100 to 1600 and more.
Canon Mark II web site
------------------------------------
From the Canon web site:
"The reborn EOS-1D achieves 8.2 effective megapixel resolution even at a continuous shooting speed of 8.5 frames per second. This extraordinary feat is more than evolution, it’s a revolution in digital camera performance. Versatility, operational ease and all aspects of camera design have been meticulously refined to give professionals a genuine edge at decisive moments."

'scuse my ignorance, but what are you going to shoot at 8.5 fps. ?
It sounds great, but I think the 8.2 megapix sounds better

You're 'scused. To do 8.5 frames per second for up to 40 frames means it has one hell of a fast processor. Plus there got to somebody one there that shoots at that fast rate for that many frames to get one frame in focus!

I don't. £1200 for my 10D nearly broke the bank. I dread to think what this baby retails for......

Not sure the price. Have not seen it on any online stores. It was just announced yesterday so it may be a while before web sites get updated.

EOS magazine reported the UK RRP as £3499.99 and Park Cameras has that as a to be confirmed price so hopefully the street price should be a bit lower.

Cheers

Yes, the image size is good (wished it had been at least into the double digits), but it's not that you will shoot that fast, it's that you can shoot that fast. You won't always see an on track incident happening that you want to shoot completely, but there is always a long line of cars somewhere to shoot. Think of it this way... 20 cars in a 20 lap sprint race. They come through the turn your at nose to tail and you want to get at least one shot of every car. The frame rate with the larger buffer size will let you do that. So you're not kicking yourself because by the next lap when a number of the cars have taken each other out at the corner past where you're standing...

Or you can shoot a burst to ensure that you get the shot exactly where you want the car to be...

But I'm happy to also hear of better E-TTL flash system, zoom picture review and faster autofocus...

Will this impact on the EOS 1DS at all? Do many motorsport pros actually use it?

With this upgrade of the 1D, and at a much lower price, the only real advantage of the DS would be the full-frame sensor, which i'm assuming the 1D Mk 2 still lacks.

I know a few of the pros who have a 1Ds, but they usually leave it at home for the races, mainly because of the slower frame rate (like the 10D).

And yes the MkII has the 1.3 magnification like the 1D...
