That looked like a pretty average start too. Don't think the tyres where the normal dunlops either (which could be a good thing).

About as good as it gets for official charging stations, unless you pack a generator.

Give them a full quarter mile and it'd be a different story too. Impressive from the Tesla, no doubt about it though.

In regard to getting from one city to another here in Oz on a single charge - nah. I think that the best of the EV crowd is a 450km or so range, that'd get them about half way on the shortest hop between cities.

Aren't Geelong, Wollongong and Newcastle cities?

Don't see any issue driving from Melbourne to Geelong or from Sydney to Wollongong or Newcastle.

Most power suppliers offer a 'green power' option generated by renewable energy sources, but will charge you more for it. I guess it's a matter of how committed to the concept the purchaser is

The Suby and Lancer are faster 1/4 milers than the Holden, and launch much harder, so they would have to be the challengers as fastest 4 door sedans?

Don't know what distance the comparison was run over, but the launch of the Holden in the video of the first comparison was pedestrian to say the least.

Don't know if the would beat the Tesla, but you would at least need a professional drag racer to put the cars down a strip to tell.

Yeah true, although most of the councils within the Melbourne metro area for example are "the city of ....." and then Ipswich is a city close to Brisbane etc.

I of course was thinking about capital cities but there's no denying that the killer for EVs in Australia is the lack of range for anyone who either drives to other capitals, out in extended country drives etc. Around each city itself, we're really no different to most cities around the world.

Would be the same for most RWD conventional road cars I reckon - the electric motors really do deliver on acceleration and the AWD grip no doubt helped - both "conventional" cars in the video were clearly struggling to put the power down.

According to Motor Trend (Suby & Evo X) and Motor (W507) the Japanese cars are running mid 13s for the quarter mile and the W507 mid-low 12s, so they are in fact slower over the quarter. With AWD drive and the way they launch though, either of them may have been quicker that the Holden over the shorter distance in the video - it'd be an interesting comparison I reckon.

I don't think that you would need more than a lap, the supercar would more than likely out handle the Tesla and therefore catch up in the twisty bits.

Travelling between capital cities is definitely out of the question; Tesla do have a network of Supercharger stations between Sydney and Melbourne though.

It was a little over 200m, maybe 215-220.

On tele they said that graphene batteries recharge very fast.........may be the way of the future if so.

If you're living in Victoria, you're kidding yourself.

Your power company is going to "sell" you green power and the power you get is from coal.

Anyway an all wheel drive electric car being faster to 100km/h than a general purpose vehicle and racing car that both have gearing set for regular use and are RWD is hardly news.

A bit unfair on the donkey, asking it to carry a Holden...

Fast, low voltage charging batteries have to be the next big breakthrough, you'd think. Not just cars, the market for them is huge. Just imagine your mobile, camera or other consumer device needing no more than a small solar panel on it to fully recharge the battery in 10 minutes? Whoever can crack that is sitting on a fortune. Upscale it to a car and the potential is enormous.
