Carpentier wishes for a drive in Champ Car
Where coud he land and would this help save the Montreal event? I know it would rase last years numbers but would it create enough momentum to change people's feeling about what happened last year? (Legeault vs Newman, KK, Forsythe etc)

It's kind of funny he mentions PKV as the most likely option, considering how many drivers have been linked to PKV already

It would certainly be nice to see Carpentier back in Champ Car. He would be a strong asset to any number of teams and the series as well.

With PT departing at the end of the season, Carpentier would help OWRS to capitalize on their Toronto investment. Especially if Ranger doesn't get a ride.

If I undertand Macdaddy correctly it would secure the future market. A sort of plan B which would also help for Montreal on the short term.

On the other hand, Champ Car did have Alex Tagliani racing last season. And he posted some decent results with a new team. He is French Canadian, isn't he? Or is Patrick more popular? I don't know - I'm just asking.
Personally, I am not a Patrick fan. I thought that as a driver he was more hype than results. But he was a great personality and popular, so I guess in that regard Champ Car would benefit from having Patrick. |

For whatever reason Pat has more sway in Quebec than Tag does. I find it somewhat odd given how close Tag was to winning in Montreal in 2003.

Carpentier is more popular with the journalists in Mtl and is thus highly regarded. Carpentier was better than Tags also in his last season in Champ Car. A large portion of the drop was due to him not be in Mtl.

Is there anyone in this forum, perhaps from Quebec, who can possibly give some insight as to why Patrick is more popular than Alex? This is very interesting to me because this could ensue a debate as to whether Champ Car needs to focus on getting the best drivers, or the most marketable.

Patrick is a more charismatic guy that Alex. Basically he is just more fun. If you watch his interviews you just can't help like the guy.

Amar I am from Québec and from Montréal. Carpentier has always finished higher in the standings than Tag, he is well liked by key journalists here. This translates in most fans liking him more than Tags. Montreal suffered deeply from his loss last year.

He is one of the drivers I would like very much back in CC... but at the moment so many (also good) drivers are looking for a seat (or try to buy) that we have more the problem with the lacking number of cars... CC needs one more new team or some teams expanding to 3 cars... |

The problem lies in the limited amount of tuns available and not interest by new teams. That's why 2007 is key. Only then will new teams or transferring teams will want to invest.

The thing with Pat is that he is like Christian Fittipaldi, it would be great to have him back but he's had his days in Champ Car what more does he have to offer other than a good number one driver for a new or mid field team or a good number two at a top team?

When Patrick joined the IRL, did he bring the Canadian fan base with him?

I think he can still be perfect on his day (see his wins) and I would very much welcome Patrick back, he's a favourite of mine from the Player's days.
You know, there's a rise of interest now with many drivers wanting to be back into Champ Cars. I say all existing Lolas should be run this year for everyone! I know it's materially and financially impossible but certainly it'd be great. |

There was an increase in interest in the IRL for sure when Carpentier left Champ Car. Newspapers like the Journal de Montréal had colombs for both Irl and Champ Car and this was never done before. Many pro Carpentier news people started hinting the IRL may be a better alternative when the Montreal event did not bring as many fans. Basically what i'm saying is that this may be the last chance for Montreal to prove itself and to bring Legault back into the "family". For that Legault, which lost money last year, will need another ace for promotion. That ace is Carpentier in my mind. Tracy is known here but he will not bring crowds. Montreal needs a competitive home town guy who is weel liked. Tag and Ranger are unable to bring in the crowds.

No one would be more happy than I if Patrick came back to CC!!! I would love to see him back in Cleveland....of course, I would never get any volunteer hours in if he was there because I would be hanging around him all weekend!!!

He made his bed....a shame his "Number one" status over there didn't actually get him anything rather than staying with Forsythe and probably being in contention for at least a couple of race victories (if you assume races where Forstyhe did a good job then he could've won a couple....Denver most probably, since Tracy completely screwed the pooch on that one )
Although, despite not liking the way he left the series (having Forsythe match every offer he was made by Cheever but still blaming the series and Team Forsythe for everything that had ever happened to him in the last million years ) if it secures more popularity in Canada I guess it would be good to have him back......not that I don't believe our leaders would need such help anyway, as good a job as they're doing! |

Speculation here in Indy is that if Cheever runs a car in the other Series, it will be with Carpentier, and not Barron...

Speculation here in Chatham is that if Cheever doesn't run a car in the other series, Carpentier will be watching TV all summer. Time runs short.

Yup, I think Carpentier has few chances in champcar. He torched his bridges when he left and there is no grand desire to get him back. I can't think of one champcar team owner who would be gagging to get their hands on him. There is always the daytona prototype thing he could drive though.

Yeah, it seems like Champ Car is so much on the up-and-up that they really don't need an icon like Carpentier anymore. At least, that is my perception. To me, it seems like that Champ Car is focusing on the drivers who stuck with the series during the rough times and finding young talent to bank on for the future.
