Unofficial viewing places at Le Mans
Last year (before the race) we found a great viewing place, on the inside on the circuit in the car park of an Industrila unit, just after the first chicane. During the race the french police would'nt let us pass.
Does anyone know of any unofficial viewing places which we could visit next year??? (feel free to e-mail me if you don't want too many people knowing your secret!) Will |

To be honest, not really. It is sometimes possible to sneak a peak through the hedges on the Mulsanne near the restaurants, but I wouldn't bother trying during daylight.

There is heaps of unofficial places to watch , but you got too hunt them out . One place worth a visit is down by the first chicane , just past the chinese restaurant . You can watch them brakeing down for the chicane but its best left till night time . Then you get the full effect of lights and glowing brakes and cherry red turbos , the sound is really something too . You can drive to that chicane !!! Have fun .....

in the same area, you can access to the outside of the first chicane (so inside track) which is just next to what you called "Industrial Unit" (for LM anoraks it's Leroy Merlin DIY superstore...)
You drive and/or walk from the first roudabout (next to the BUT store), to the second roudabout (so you drive between Leroy Merlin on your right and kitchen and wallpaper stores on your left ) You'll have a raod/track straight after this second roudabout, just continue and you'll have access to the chicane, and it's really an incredible place to attend the race, see them brake, overpass and you may also compare the talent of each driver ! |

And Les Gendarmes? When I've been past there (several times), the place has been crawling with police. As a result, we've never bothered to stop there. Do they just stand there and watch, or what?

You have to gain access by inner track either coming from Beausejour, Houx, technoparc,...
... just use the Entree Sud exit ! |
