Nice looking car, pity it did not work. Can you wait until I have time to search photo album scan and post ? Call back Monday evening, if not PM me a reminder. Think I have a photo of it in the pits head on. As it only done a few laps I dont think I have any of it in action though. Simon |

Wasnt that a Fulvio Ballabio creation alongside the ex-Dywa aurora F1/F300 car that became the Monaco F3000 car? Top man Fulvio - wish he'd cgot a superlicence when he went to drive for Spirit in F1 - ah well at least he drove for Merzario in F2....

Osella stands not only for the renowned F1/sportscar team, but also Organisation for Supporting Enthusiastically Largely Luckless Automobiles. Yes I know I should get out more. One day there will be a website devoted to this fantastic team, I haven't come across a good one yet. And another thing. If memory serves, did Nicola Larini not briefly hold down third place in Canada around 90-91? Documentary evidence greatly appreciated.

Has anyone any knowledge of a pair of "UK Lamborghini Jotas which failed to qualify for Le Mans in 91 I think!"
Osella, I'm having real problems trying to trace these cars, I'm interested as I had not heard of them nor seen them. I will e mail the Eagle photo as soon as poss, the Allard as well once I have found the photo, however I think the photo I have is of the BRM not the Allard. Will that do ? Simon |

I was wrong. They're on the '95 entry list, cars 31 and 32, GT1 class, AIM/Team Lamborghini UK, Lambo Jotas, drivers Rupert Keegan, Harry Nuttal, DNA (did not attend??)http://user.tninet.se/~aiq291w/1995.htm
Any photos of anything obscure would be luvverly. Howsabout Ed Arnolds No.63 BMW M5, a no-show from '93, or the Jankel Corvette? |

Oh, and Rupert Keegan drove the 52 Lister Storm in '95 which went out early with transmission failure. Last edited by Aysedasi; 13 Dec 2001 at 18:33. |

Of the 2 Lambo's entered only 1 arrived, it was deemed against the rules and not passed scrutineering as the engine had been turned to allow the race gearbox to be fitted. The car was only finished 1 month before LM and minor problems like siting of the engine were obviously overlooked !!
I have searched the web to get a LM photo to no avail. Osella you have an e mail with the 1 photo I did find ! SL |

There is a pic of the No.32 Jota in this month's LeMans and Sportscar
Mag. I haven't bought it so I can't scan it for you! Apparently it was a spaceframe machine shown to the ACO at prequalifying. They had a letter of intent from Lamborghini to build roadgoing equivalents. Mike Youles was involved, apparently at the one test they did compare favourably with the Venturis, (every single one of which outqualified the McLarens in '95) so it's another case of 'what might have been!'. |

I thought it was the Ferrari F40s that were quicker than the McLarens in 1995 qualifying? One of Venturi's did quite well in qualifying, but the Lehto McLaren was quicker. I think it was something like three F40s followed by the winning McLaren then the Venturi. The other two (?) were way back, but they were a lower spec. Obviously this is all in the GT class and not overall. |

I've found a couple of photo's of the 32 Lambo. The driver was Harry Nuttall.
I had a second look at the 95 Autosport and there is a photo in the 'Koni' advert of all places. I'll post it later tonight. SL |

I was a bit revisionist in pronouncing the Venturis quicker than the McLarens in '95.
McLarens qualified 9,11-15th,20th, Venturis 10th,29th,36th(!) and yes the F40s pasted them all with 6th,7th,8th. The Jota's pace was being compared favourably with the works Venturi that qualified 10th, not the Graham car in 36th which was a lot slower! |

Autosport Le Mans Supplement June 1995
Engine 5.7lt V12 Power 600bhp Weight 1050kg Say Lamborghini and you think sportscars, but have you ever seen one race? Not till now, at least not backed by the factory. A team of Brits persuaded the factory to come up with a special called the Jota. The first drivers to step into the car, stepped out of it raving. If they are right, that this car goes as well as it looks, then the Jota could be a McLaren beater-It matches the F1 on power and beats it on weight. A big step up for driver Hary Nuttall. Lamborghini knows a thing or two about engines, and the Amos International team flows with F1 andsportscar experience. The same is true of Gerard Larousse who was expected to take the helm for the race. But the car tested for the first time 4 weeks before. As a comparison F40LM 3.0 t 600bhp 1080kg 911 RSR 3.6 600bhp 1100kg Venturi 600 3.0 t 620bhp 1050kg NSX 3.0 t 600bhp 1040kg Jag 220 3.5 650bhp 1200kg McL F1 6.1 636bhp 1500kg A pity the car never turned a wheel in Pre Q or the race. Ironicly it was Keegan who was to drive the Jota, transfered to the reserve car the Lister. Now allowed to race because of the Jota dropping out, prompty spun the Lister and broke the clutch. SL |

I'm sure there was another factory Lambo Gt entry after these two nearly-rans; a pink GT1 Diablo destroyed or at least damaged byond economic repair at the Hungaroring in qualifying. And never seen again since. I think that's it on the Labo front before the Reiter engineering car which performed so well at the last round of this year's GT championship. There's probably one in Japan, too.

Well, in 1995 the race was on 17th/18th June. So working backwards (and forwards) the preview edition should have been on 8th June and the race report edition on 22nd June?
