Naming a Corner at Le Mans Circuit
Was wondering about the history of naming corners at the Le Mans circuit. With all that Audi has done for ACO racing it seems fit that a corner be named in their honor. How does that normally work?
Also believe that one of the best corners on the circuit doesn't currently have a name associated with it. The right hander before Indy. It should be named Audi. Thoughts? |

I agree. We already have Ford chicane, Porsche Curves and Corvette corner, so why not? But there aren't too many options of corners to be named after. It'd be either one of the chicanes on the Mulsanne straight or one of the corners that is already part of the Porsche Curves, the latter not making too much sense.

Something around the circuit should be named after Henri Pescarolo

If so, we could go on:
Tom Kristensen Jacky Ickx... |

Can see the argument for naming grandstands / viewing areas after drivers - Kristensen, Ickx, and Pescarolo would all be worthy candidates - and one could argue that where a stand is named after a corner (Dunlop) there's scope to change in that direction.

So, officially, this right corner as no name yet though we consider this sequence as being "Indianapolis". |

Generally, Indianapolis is regarded as both the right and left handers. |

I've never heard the right hand kink be called Indy. I've only ever heard it called "the kink before Indy"

Is Corvette corner an official name or is it something that has evolved amongst the fans / commentators?

http://www.corvetteracing.com/news/l...rvette-curves/ Whether it will be kept or changed like the Mulsanne chicanes, is unknown. |

Seem to remember reading somewhere that the Ford chicane was paid for by Ford as it increased the lap time and made it less likely for anyone to break their then current distance record. Likewise I think Porsche paid for the Porsche curves and so they got named after them.
So for Audi to have a corner named after them, they probably will need to pay for some work done on it or if the track changes layout, a new corner |

And what about Ferrari?
No offense whatsoever to Chevrolet, but Ferrari has won outright and without checking, I presume has had far more entries overall than Corvettes entered. Last edited by jimclark; 25 Nov 2016 at 14:53. |
