So, who's your favourite driver(s) out there?

Who's your favourite current Champ Car driver and why?

Personally I favour Wilson, being British, and Bourdais - super-fast, aggressive and a very diverse driver, IMO the best driver out there...

Don't really have a favourite as such, although I like to see Wilson do well.

I like Justin Wilson, too...

But until Bourdais apologizes to RollCentre for the Le Mans incident, I wouldn't root for him if he was the only driver on the track....

But that's just my own personal feelings....

I also like Ryan Hunter-Reay.....

I'm not usually patriotic in terms of driver support, but Wilson has everything I like in a driver - pace, courage, good-nature, a strong work ethic and a story of beating the odds.

Not many of the other drivers do much for me - I've never really liked Paul or Bruno for a start. Bourdais I like, but that's about it. These guys all pale next to Zanardi, Montoya and Moore in my book.

Indeed. Maybe one day Champ Car will get back to that level of strength in depth.

Wish Bourdais and Wilson had been out there racing in that 'era' of 5/10 years ago...

I admire Tracy, and especially Vasser, for sticking with OWRS in times of trouble.

I also enjoy the personalities of Carpentier and Tagliani - sounds like I'm being patriotic but that's not the reason at all.

Jimmy Vasser has always been one of my favorits drivers, especially after I met him and realized that he's such a great guy! And I think I agree with everything I've ever heard Paul Newman say, so I have to support Bruno and Sebastien.

Of course, if Cristiano comes back I'll be the happiest girl in the world...

It looks quite likely that Da Matta is leaving F1, so hopefully he can be enticed back and add yet further quality to the field

I find Tracy great entertainment - whether he's whinging, causing an accident - and then denying it, driving a sensational race, sticking up for Champ Car and insulting the IRL, or pulling a great move - he's superb entertainment, and it was great to see him down at Brands last year. Shame I didn't get into karting a bit earlier and I could have seen him at Buckmore Park - he took his Forsythe team down to the Kent track over the Brands weekend and raced the local hire karts, in the standard clobber, and didn't win - he finished 3rd! His picture is up there in the modern clubshouse! What a legend!

I guess Allemendinger is my favourite current Champcar driver. I really enjoy watching rookies move up through the development series and do well in Champcar. I've watched AJ for over 3 years now. I also like Hunter-Reay, Bourdais and Wilson.

I know some of you will be surprised by my answer but without a doubt it would be Patrick Carpentier!! Why do you ask?? Because I think by far he is the nicest and coolest driver in the series!!! I like most of the drivers in the series but he's my favorite!!

Paul Tracy - always aggressive. I like that.

Bourdais - watching him qualify at Cleveland last season was really impressive. I involuntarily flinched when I thought he was going to hit the wall. He kept his foot in it though and set fast time.

Wilson - cause he's tall and I can live vicariously
through him

AJ Allmendinger - truly believe this guy is the real deal.

coolbear, you are clearly in the wrong forum (again). If you wish to discuss IRL, you will be more-than-welcome to do so on the correct board. In the meantime, I would expect all posts on this board to be about ChampCar.

I liked the article on Wilson. If CCWS can continue to provide a challenge and reward to top level racing talent, then F1 will only get them if it is a rewarding deal with a top F1 team. The competetive drive the propels drivers to push the limits of the car and track prevent them from taking the money to just drive and not be competetive. Of course this is the norm not the rule.

Sorry 'bout the edit, racinthestreets.

My top pick if I was building a team out of todays Champ Car stable would be Jimmy Vasser and Justin Wilson. Jimmy for his class and determination when he gets a team and a car behind him, not like last year. And Justin for the showing he has done and the potential he shows to be even better.
But if I was picking a team from CART of yesteryear, hands down it would be Alex Zanardi and Greg Moore.

Alex Tagliani. I've liked him since the beginning. He will win one of these days, I'm sure of it!

I'm also quickly starting to like Wilson, and Bourdais has done nothing but impress me. And you gotta like Carpentier and enjoy watching/hearing PT.

While I never really favour drivers, I tend to cheer for ones that I think deserve to win or have unrealized talent.

I've never really been before, but I'm becoming a Tag fan. I like that he always drives through the field and gives it 110%. If the car setups were more equal he'd be giving Bourdais and Junky a run for their money.

Last year I cheered for PT because it was nice to see him get it together and achieve to the real extend of his abilities. I definately favor a sane PT over Junky or Bourdais. I think he's better and he's certainly more interesting. We never see Junky or Bourdais doing anything all that interesting and I don't like that they always have the car to beat. Bourdais is very quick when out front or behind his teammate, but that's it. Can you picture one of them passing or challanging each other like Pat and PT? No way.

I like a lot of the drivers. Vasser has been much improved in 2003 and 2004, which is nice to see. Jourdain is struggling this year, but he's a nice guy and fast. AJ seems to really be starting to put it together. RHR and Dominguez can be really interesting to watch. Wilson and Servia move their back marker cars into contention. Haberfeld really impressed me last year, but this year he's got a garbage car and there's never any footage of him so we can't even tell how well he's doing.

The one guy I use to cheer for all the time was Moore. I absolutely detested Zanardi. All the bad on track driving qualities you could say about PT were 10X worse with Zanardi. When JPM was in CART I didn't want him to do well because he was so good I thought he would make the series look bad, but never did I question his ability.

All Men Named Mario!

Mario Haberfeld, because I believe in the right car he would be blinding, and Mario Dominguez because he IS blinding.

But nobody will ever hold the place in my North American heart that Mario Andretti has. Mario Andretti is my favourite Champ Car and Sports Car driver and he holds a close second to my hero Alain Prost in F1.

But for CART today it's Mario H and Mario D.

In OWRS today I will go with AJ Almendinger and super sub Memo Gidley.

From the past I would have to go with Nigel Mansell and Al Unser Jr.

Honorable mention: Danny Ongais, Mario Andretti and Michael Andretti, the all-time lap leader for CART and all-time leader in race wins.

I kinda like em all , anyone who is out there living the life so many of us dream about is allright by me (as long as they appreciate their position in life that is)

But being a fan of Formula One I quite like seeing ex Grand prix drivers continue their careers in Champcar , so this year Ive been supporting Wilson and even Mazzacane but im very impressed with Allmendinger too.

Aj has looked pretty impressive - he and Wilson are right in amongst it, and I'd be surprised if the 2 of them weren't in the hunt for the 2005 Championship. Tag has a stunning wife, so from man-to-man I have a big respect for him ! He reminds me of Alesi - fast, aggressive, a fans favourite, but you know he's never going to be able to put a Championship winning campaign together, sadly.

Wilson looks so happy out there, and I'm truly delighted for him.

Seb though IS the real deal, and WILL be the man to beat this season, and in coming years. Don't see the sense in him leaving the championship in the coming years - I'm sure he's being financially rewarded and he can go to each race confident of challenging for the win. Great racer, and VERY aggressive - incredibly fast too!
