Pro Evolution Soccer 4
Tomorrow is a great day for Great Britain........the release of Pro Evolution Soccer 4 on PS2!
So is anyone else getting this? You can guarantee it'll be as fabulous as ever (although i hope it is harder). |

Dear good Luke, see the light, see the light!! We've dragged you over from GPL now join us, brother, on the hallowed turf of Pro Evo! FIFA is appalling compared to Pro Evo, you won't regret it!
Unfortunately I don't know if I can afford this one at the moment, what with Halo 2 coming early next month. Let me know what it's like Knowlesy. |

Wow....where to start!
Errm......well, I've been on it a couple of hours and have only had one match, the rest has been spent in the editing suite! You can now edit all kits including goalies, edit stadium names, league names, add sponsors logos to shirts, many other parameters......it's all very impressive, if a touch confusing to navigate. i can't quite figure out what to do! There are many teams, including full rosters from La Liga, Serie A, Premiership, Eredivisie, Bundesliga, the French league plus many others......... Spanish, Dutch and Italiam sides are fully licensed with up to date kits. Master League looks ridiculously complex. Transfers are ALMOST up to date. As for actual gameplay, well a referee is now on the pitch with you, the pace has been slowed to a more realistic level and there is a 6 star difficulty to unlock. it also seems harder. As usual, the game has evolved in a way that makes it have a totally new feel and therefore has to be re-learnt slightly. It seems a little harder.....considering I used to whop teams on 5 star 7-0 and upwards constantly, my 1-1 draw and defeat on penalties toArsenal in my first game on 3 star came as a surprise! The only complaint at this time is the horrible menu system....where it was once easy to read and navigate, it is now utterly impossible. The editing area is particularly challenging. Plus there are more teams to edit and bring up to date now as well!!!!!! Great stuff so far.........haven't seen FIFA 2005 yet, but it has no chance of getting anywhere near this little gem! |

FIFA 2005 is actually a massive improvement, and it already gains over PES in that it doesn't have any slowdown. On the PS2, the slowdown on PES borders on ridiculous on corners and things, there was some in PES3 but it seems worse here.
Don't get me wrong it plays as well as the previous ones if not better but you'd expect that from Konami, year on year FIFA makes the greater gains and for 2005 it's a lot better to play as well as looking better and having the advantage of the licencing. A couple of years ago I would have laughed at anyone who thought it was possible...but for me, they're dead equal this year. |

hmmm. It may be worth waiting for the Xbox version of PES4 next month then. I just don't know how the controls are gonna work.

I don't think the Xbox version has the same problem, that's what I'm holding out for too. I always had FIFA on the PS2 until last years and got used to the Xbox controls very quickly, now I can't play it with a PS2 pad. I'm guessing PES will be the same.

I'm going to pick it up today or tomorrow, just sold PES3 on Ebay so I'm lacking a footy game.

Played this last night for the first time. much better that PES3, free kicks and tricks. Love it. shame the ps2 version doesnt do online but hey. just keeps on improving, apart from stupid ref decisions, but just add to the realism!!

Got it. I've got to find time for this, TRD2 and GPL...
I'm sorted until GT4 now. |
