Raikkonen or Hakkinen? who's the real flying Finn?
There's been a bit of debate about Kimi of late with people comparing him to Hakkinen, but who is the better? I'd say Raikkonen on talent, but Hakkinen the better all rounder. For this poll I just vote Raikkonen. What do you think?

Neither.
For me it should have been J.J. Lehto. If he'd had half the breaks Hakkinen and Raikkonen got, I firmly believe he would have outshone both of them. On the poll, how can you compare the two. Raikkonen's still in his F1 nappies...... |

I like all 3. Mika, Kimi and JJ. And I'd throw in Keke to make it 4.
Maybe JJ didn't do as well because his name is too long. Rosberg. Silverstone 1985. Wow. Mika. Qualifying everywhere. Wow. JJ. Le Mans 1995. Dark. Wet. Wow! Kimi. Loads to come I suspect... |

Bit early to put Kimi in Hakki's league.

Overall, too early to make a comparison. Kimi's got to a competitive seat well before Mika did, which makes his record look better, however Mika showed his pace pretty well in those weak Lotus cars in his early days, then outqualified Senna on his McLaren debut.

fair enough, it is an early comparison, but talent like Kimis will be the same ten years down the line when he's a seven time world champion; that won't change...

KR won the first race in his career. MH has two WDC's... no comparison!

Compare how MH did with DC comared to Kimi. I'd say MH is a bit better at the moment. (Kimi with a bit more experience will likely improve)

Hakkinen.....Too early to call,,,way too early
We will have to wait that Kimi...has 2 WC under his belt and equals Mika's victories before we can give the name to Kimi. He has the potential...we will see |

I voted for Raikkonen, because he has many years in F1 ahead of him and I honestly think he will achieve more than Hakkinen.
And his first race win wasn't a shoddy fix. |

Hakkinen didn't have the benefit of driving for a front line team at the start oof his career and by the time he moved up to Mclaren, they were on a slide. Add in his near death in 1995 and we see not only great talent, but perseverence. Raikkonen has enourmous potential as a driver but he hasn't even a inkling how to be the man that Mika is.
BTW, I'm not voting because its far too early to compare them. |

Both clucking fast. In fact all the Finns have been mega, I agree JJ never got the break he deserved too although I wouldnt put him on par with Mika.

I'm Finn and I say Häkkinen.
If you remember the picture taken in Adelaide 93, you know why. Picture can be seen in Autocourse 1993-94 for example. |

Some years ago I spoke with Jason Elliott, who came up against JJ Lehto in the lower formulae. Jason reckoned JJ's speed was such that he did not do him any favours when it came to developing his own career. JJ however had promise that was never fulfilled in F1. Hakkinen has fulfilled it though, whereas Raikkonen is still in the wings. Kimi therefore has immense promise and may one day be regarded as a "great", but for now, Mika must get the nod.

First of all, I have to say that there ain't one REAL Flying Finn. Group of Flying Finns are now about 20 drivers... Timo Mäkinen, Aaltonen, Toivonen, Lampinen, Mikkola, Alén, H. Toivonen, Salonen, Kankkunen, Tommi Mäkinen, Grönholm, Rosberg, Järvilehto, Häkkinen, Salo, Räikkönen,...
Comparing Mika H and Kimi, it's still too early to say. We need atleast couple really wet races for Kimi before I can say if Kimi is more Flying Finn than Mika H... Häkkinen was a great driver, one of alltime greatest when it came to one flying lap, but also -unlike other racing's flying finns- just a mediocre in the rain. Many of whom has seen Kimi in wet karting races say that Kimi is again something special in the wet... but we haven't really seen that in formulas. I also believe that Mika lost some of his natural speed in Adeleide 95. |

Come on, of course Mika Häkkinen, but Kimi Räikkönen is only 23 years old , so he do still have a chance next coming years

Kimi hasn't been airborne... yet.
I think Kimi's got the edge on raw potential. What develops of that potential, time will tell. |
