I have posted some photos from round 3 of the F6 four stroke Karting Championship on Flickr here

This is a really friendly series and a great way to get into Karting, the next round is at Ellough Park, Norfolk on Saturday June 29th. If you want to try karting but don't know where to start, pop along and see what F6 has to offer.

Yes I think we should all try and promote the series, as we all know how great it is , just to give Roger & the gang some payback . Cheers for the feedback on the pics Steve .

Hi Paul,

I was very involved taking fotos with F6 competitors and for Karting Magazine back in 2000 to 2003 and I agree it's a great series run by Roger Sheffield and his team.

Can't believe it's 10 years + ago ...

Hi Paula, that's interesting , yes the club has been going for a few years now ! I'll have to see if any reports make it to the Karting mag currently, I certainly wouldn't mind sending some photos in, if that helps the club out , publicity wise.
I hope you are still active behind the viewfinder ? Glad you liked the pics.

Yes it' a great club.

I don't know who takes club fotos for Karting Magazine these days but Chris Walker of course covers National & International Kart events for them.

Worth giving the mag a call, I say.

I have just bought a mint D300S Nikon over here in the USA from a friend of mine. It only has 8500 actuations and it's nearly 3 years old. All my Sigma EX lenses (28-70mm & 70-200mm f2.8's) seem to work OK with it, I bought these 10 to 13 years ago for my 35mm Nikon F90X.

Sigma said they should be able to rechip them if required as I bought them new and 'Free of Charge' too ...

So you might see me back behind the lens again.....

I used to cover all the Goodwood events which was great fun, and HSCC as well as 750MC car races.

Last year while I was here I covered the 'Indy 500' with the D300S which was awesome.

Thanks for that info Paula, yes I know that Chris covers the Super 1 series and Euromax also I believe, perhpas I'll take your advice and call the Karting mag.
Sounds like you had a steal there with the D300s (with the Sigma's working !) and covering the Indy500 too, wow, how lucky ! I'm still new to DSLR photography , learning fast though, off to Le Mans next, where I'll be fighting to poke my lens through the fences there. Goodwood is on my map too this year, so plenty to keep me busy beside the F6 events.

I still have a few of you photos on the wall at home from when I raced in F6 a few years ago (Started in 93 finished in 2000) I was a great series back then and seems to still be going strong. I cant believe that Roger still has the energy to keep going after spending so much time over the years on F6. I keep planning to go along to a meeting to see who is still involved from when I raced, (only trouble is I will want to go out and play again)

One team is running a rental Kart service, it's there to be used in one of the remaining race meetings Dave .

Hi Paul,

It was a good price at US$800 which is about 525.97 pounds @ the present 1.521 Exchange Rate.

Johanna bought it new in Nov 2010 for US$2149.99 discounted. That equates to 1413.54 pounds at 1.521 (no pound sign on US computers ...).

So it's lost almost a third of it's value.

But we checked on both the US and UK Ebay sites and that is what the D300S is worth now in both countries for that age and usage.

Nikon Rumours say that a D400 is imminent ...

Johanna tastes a new D800 now to go with her D7000 which has superior video to the D300S but only a plastic body. The D300S of course is metal which is great for longevity.

You can buy a new D800 discounted here for US$2799.99 which equates to 1840.89 pounds ... !!!!

Enjoy Le Mans, I last went in 2002.

So I have been to the big 3 now, having gone to the Monaco GP with my late father in 1975 when Nikki Lauda won in the wet. We cheered Graham Hill from the stands and, of course, he sadly died later that year in that awful plane crash along with Tony Brise and other team members of Embassy Hill.

Last year's Indy 500 was the hottest ever and over 90F at 9.00am !!!

Johanna coped (she lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico) but I was shattered ...

Maybe see you at the Goodwood Revival, we must keep in touch on that.

I still keep in touch with David Bright (Brighty) and others who raced in Ecomotors. Those races were awesome with Lee Hollywood, Ben Langford and company.

I'm new to the Nikon range, so will have to do some investigating regarding model numbers, mine is the entry level D3100 , I'm sure I'll be upgrading later once I have my first years experience of being at events . I know mine is a dx and is plastic, that's about it ! My nephew came up through the Cadet class in F6, he's done well from it winning both the S1 and Euromax titles last year , he only switched to 2 stroke when he was 15.
I love the FOS and will be looking for good vantage points this year.
Still envious of your Indy visit and now to find you was at Monaco in '75 too how wonderful !

Hi Paul,

Oh OK. Some photographers used to prefer Canon's but the Nikon has I believe better build quality.People tend to stick with their chosen make because of lens compatability and cost when updating or adding.

As I am out of touch more or less with karting what is your nephew's name.

I first went to the FOS in the 90's and it had a more garden party atmosphere back then with less crowds and not so much commercialism. Not sure if Lord March does it anymore but after Sunday's prizegiving he would invite the public into his house for champers and cake. Very generous of him and so civilised.

The Ferrari 312T was a great F1 car and loved it's noise. F1 back in those days was simply wonderful. Graham Hill did not qualify for the race but the crowds especially we Brits gave him and wife Bette a huge cheer as they walked along the pit straight/starting line area.

Dad and I were in the stands almost opposite the start/finish line ...

Can't believe it was 38 years ago !!!!

His name is Sean Babington and unfortunately he is one of those mega talented drivers who will never get a chance in cars due to finances He's won in every class he's competed in and indeed many from around his past are now doing well in F Renault and even F3 ! He's only just turned 20 so maybe one day huh ?

I'm a late comer to the FOS so missed those 'friendly' years , I still love it though and introduced my teenage kids to Rene Arnoux and co last year .

That 312T engine powered Gilles V for a few years , so I heard it at Brands a couple of times, loved the Marta V12 too !

Hey my Dad took me to Brands in the 60's, memories are vague but he still reminds me of them now !

I'll stick with Nikon for now, I have a 35 prime , a VR70-300 and the 18-55 kit lens, that will do me until I upgrade at the end of the year .
