Rounds 12 and 13: revised calendar. IndyCar Harvest Grand Prix, IMS, Oct 1-3
Rounds 12 and 13: revised calendar. IndyCar Harvest Grand Prix, Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Oct 1-3.
After a three week hiatus, it's back to green flag racing this Friday and a return to the Grand Prix circuit at IMS, for the IndyCar Harvest Grand Prix. As this is the second time this season the Grand Prix circuit will be holding an event, there didn't seem much point in repeating most of the intro for the GMR Grand Prix, however both the race review and the result are included. Unlike the GMR Grand Prix, the IndyCar Harvest Grand Prix will be a double header and the fifth of the season. IMS are also allowing a maximum of 10,000 fans for each race. Both the GMR Grand Prix and the Indy 500 were held behind closed doors. Scott Dixon won the first three rounds of this season; Round 2 was the GMR Grand Prix. The big question is can Scott Dixon win here again? Including the Harvest Grand Prix, there are three races left and Dixon has a 72 point lead over defending Driver's Champion Josef Newgarden. Qualifying for Race 1, is on Thursday from 6:20pm ET, 10:20pm UTC Qualifying for Race 2, is on Saturday from 10:20am ET, 2:20pm UTC Some trivia: Driver with the most wins: Will Power, 2015, 2017, 2018 Team with the most wins: Team Penske, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019. NFL Sunday and we know how they feel about it. Although it appears they do better than NASCAR against the NFL games.

That was a clean start as Colton Herta got the better of VK, going round the outside into Turn 1 and takes the lead.
Edit: VK takes the lead. |

Herta's now back in the lead after a battle with VK and getting past Newgarden, who was leading but pitted for tyres.

I just noticed Liberty Mutual has changed their banner to silver over the older yellow. Not sure when that happened this season but good tv change

Race 1 result:
I thought that was a good race. The fact it was overcast and much cooler meant that it took a lot longer for the black tyres to warm up to racing temperature than normal, and therefore tyre strategy was at a premium. There was some great drives from Colton Herta and rookie Rinus Veekay, with Vekay leading for 15 laps and Herta for 25, with either looking good for the win. Both Rossi and Rosenqvist got themselves in the mix finishing 2nd and 5th, respectively. Scott Dixon went into Race 1 with a 72-point lead over defending driver's champion Josef Newgarden. Dixon spun with two laps to go dropping him from 6th to 9th, so Newgarden's win means the deficit is now reduced to 40 points going into Race 2, which will be 75 Laps as opposed to Race 1, which was 85. That could make things interesting. |

Race 2: Qualifying Result.
Power takes pole. Colton Herta is up there in second spot. However yesterday's pole sitter Rinus Veekay is fourteenth and after yesterday's win Newgarden will only start in ninth. Dixon is even further back in fifteenth. |

A bit of a jump by Power but otherwise a very clean and orderly start.

RH-R and Dixon had a coming together and the edge of the left hand side of the undertray, on Dixon's car, has a chunk taken out of it and he is losing downforce on the straights.

Lol, not on the straights. If you take the wings off they’d do near 300mph in a straight line. But slow as anything round and off the corners.
Setting the car up is always a compromise of more downforce for the corners vs less downforce for the straights. Think about how DRS works, not grip. |

It could be that the damage is messing up the airflow and causing a loss of downforce in the corners AND an increase in drag on the straights.
