Gamecube
It's nearly upon us... Nintendo's gorrrrrgeous little box arrives in the UK at midnight on Thursday. Who's getting one? With what? I have one pre-ordered with Rogue Squadron but whether I buy it or not depends on my bank balance as of tomorrow...

Isn't the game-cube aimed at 6-10 year olds? (No offence )

I'm hoping Nintendo (or more to the point, their PR lot, Cake Media) get off their arses and send me one. I want Monkey Ball, and I want Pikmin.

I won't be getting one because (like the Xbox) none of its games really appeal and I already have a PS2.

Nope im not getting one. If its anything like the 64 it wont have the good racing sims which i crave.Ill probably get a ps2 for the sole purpose of the variety of racing sims that are sure to come out on the console.

If you you're a race sim fan then GT3 is reason enough to own a PS2 (its the main reason I bought mine).

Beware with Rogue Leader, it's pretty, it's fast, but it's over almost as soon as it's started - don't be surprised if you're looking to trade it in within a couple of weeks of getting it...
Anyway, to those looking to buy GameCubes who have mothers/sisters/girlfriends - avoid Monkey Ball. I'm borrowing a Cube off my mate atm (he bagged one from Japan when they came out) with the aforementioned game, and now the missus is hooked. We've even missed every episode of East Enders this week as a result of her playing. So be warned, all of ya. Last edited by Markules; 30 Apr 2002 at 23:07. |

Sadly, beyond that it's all looking a tad bleak. Race of Champions is the next one, but a). that's again coming to the other formats and b). apparently it's not up to much, and since Codies have silently dropped TOCA RD for it (and quite possibly McRae Rally 3), things aren't looking too hot - although you'll find some good racing games on the console, there will never be as many as on Xbox and PS2, and given that Nintendo have yet to make a good modern racing sim, most of the good ones will appear on the other formats anyway. Racing games remain GC's problem genre, alas. |

Completed it last night but after that there is loads of stuff to unlock so it has lasting appeal. The best things I've unlocked so far are the use of the one and only X-Wing in any mission() and a two player game called classic dog fight where you are in two teams of just X-wings and Tie fighters .

Finally traded in GT3. It's not a game, it's a mug mat.
Got my Gamecube, have so far traded in Rogue Squadron (pants), Monkey Ball (not pants but can't afford it) and Luigi's Mansion (not pants but frustrating) and gone with Wave Race- which is bloody good fun. Definitely the pick of the release games. F1 2002 is being released in June for the system, but what I'm really waiting for is Smash Bros on the 24th May, followed by Pikmin, Starfox Adventures, Animal Crossing and the new version of Ocarina of Time. Woohoo! |

I'll stick with my trusty PS2 I think, you won't get Toca Race Driver for your Cube MF.

Ooh, don't bother with F1 2002 - GP4'll be hitting the PC and Xbox around then, so get that instead!
F1 2002 is ok, but it's typical EA stuff - a few tweaks, a couple of new additions, but the same old game as F1 2001. |

GP4 will be the dogs unmentionables for sure. It'll better on the PC mind cos of the abilty to edit. That'll be a big downer for the Xbox version.

Well, you won't have the same scope to change things like the car skins, etc, but with the hard drive and internet connectivity, you will be able to download extras onto the game eventually.
