New to Car Tyre - help
Hi,
I have a question about tyre pressure. I have got Holden Harina(`90), and the dealer is giving me the tyre size P165 R13 (the standard recommended tyre from the Owner's HandBook is writen P155/70R13. What is the right tyre pressure for the one I have got(P165 R13)? Is it supposed to be 200Kpa? The reason I asked is because my car feels abit heavy. I just wonder if the tyre is too flat. Thanks Regards, Kromo |

this new fangled language, 200kpa?
Me I'd go for around 28 - 34ish PSI. Others may disagree, but its my preference just try different pressures and see how they feel. Just be a little careful on wet roads until you feel confident, and dont go too high! |

Just to clarify, you're not saying you have one new 165/?? R13 and three 155/70 R13s on the car are you?!
I don't know what a Holden Harina is (big/small, fwd/rwd??) but I'd say you need to keep 155s or 165s all round - you might get away with 165s rear/155s front. As for tyre pressure, I'd have thought somewhere in the 'average' range - 28 to 34 PSI as coln says, which is somewhere around 2.0 - 2.2 bar. It should say in the manual, and I doubt there'll be much (if any) difference between the 155 and 165. Last edited by garcon; 2 Oct 2003 at 10:02. |

Barina, maybe?
If you're being given 1 tyre that is different to the other 3 then I'd complain. Sounds like it's at least the same rolling diameter which means it's not the end of the world, but it is illegal to have mismatched tyres. Generally, around 30psi is normal but you should probably go for 32-36psi as that tends to give slightly longer tyre life - the actual number depends on what you like the feel of while driving. |

I vaguelly remember getting nothing but criticism at 1st when I posted a tyre pressure query not so long ago!!!!!!
Everyone so far on this one has been helpful!!!! I would imagine the car in Q is a barina as its mentioned as having 13" tyres |

Why the change in size? Was it your choice or didn't they have the right size? On standard cars I stick like glue to the correct size and pressure. My kit cars are a very different matter, there is no correct size and pressure for a Vincent Hurricane or a Quantum H4i, just guesswork

A Holden Barina is an Opel/Vauxhall Corsa. here in Austrilia it's sold in the 1.4i and 1.8i petrol variants.
