WSBK Round 1 - Qatar: The start of a new (Ducati) era?
Well then, I thought I would try and start a thread .
Hooray, the racing season really starts today with the WSB boys starting free practice on a very windy and sandy Losail circuit. I’ve heard that yesterday (Wednesday) it was so windy, that the scoring pole at the start finish line got damaged and that visibility was limited. Anyway, Bayliss, Biaggi, Haga, Checa, Xaus and Kagayama to fight for the win(s)? Best Lap 2007 – Troy Corser – Yamaha 1.58.402 Superpole 2007 – Troy Corser – Yamaha 1.58.402 Race Record 2007 – Max Biaggi – Suzuki 1.59.194 |

Wow, Ten Kate have a lot of work to do. And Kawasaki have lost the plot. Think we'll see a Bayliss, Haga and Corser podium. Either way, I'm just glad we have some racing to discuss!

Superpole went to Troy Corser (ofcourse) with an amazing lap, beating the surprisingly thin looking Xaus. Biaggi third. Bayliss is only 4th Ducatisti . The Suzuki's looked good, all 3 of the worksteam in the Superpole session. The Honda's sure have work to do, but I know those bikes are almost stock, being delivered to the teams very late. However, Kawasaki is in real trouble, the official works team not in the Top 20, Ayrton Badovini (I love that name) did a hell of job putting the thing in superpole (remember, Superstock don't ride here, so he was kinda new to the track). 1 Corser Troy Yamaha YZF-R1 1'59.627 1'58.560 34 1'58.053 2 Xaus Ruben Ducati 1098 RS 08 2'00.695 1'59.940 33 1'58.689 3 Biaggi Max Ducati 1098 RS 08 2'00.744 1'59.435 37 1'58.767 4 Neukirchner Max Suzuki GSX-R1000 2'00.904 1'58.990 38 1'58.964 5 Lanzi Lorenzo Ducati 1098 RS 08 2'00.724 1'59.337 37 1'58.975 6 Haga Noriyuki Yamaha YZF-R1 2'00.476 1'59.173 31 1'59.017 7 Bayliss Troy Ducati 1098 F08 1'59.853 1'58.829 35 1'59.224 8 Kagayama Yukio Suzuki GSX-R1000 2'00.599 1'59.998 37 1'59.285 9 Checa Carlos Honda CBR1000RR 2'01.409 1'59.758 38 1'59.417 10 Fabrizio Michel Ducati 1098 F08 2'00.937 1'59.554 35 1'59.450 11 Nieto Fonsi Suzuki GSX-R1000 2'00.307 1'59.805 41 1'59.921 12 Smrz Jakub Ducati 1098 RS 08 2'01.955 2'00.148 34 1'59.984 13 Lavilla Gregorio Honda CBR1000RR 2'01.729 2'00.438 34 2'00.095 14 Sofuoglu Kenan Honda CBR1000RR 2'03.765 2'00.292 38 2'00.313 15 Rolfo Roberto Honda CBR1000RR 2'02.004 2'00.522 38 2'01.208 16 Badovini Ayrton Kawasaki ZX-10R 2'01.677 2'00.033 33 2'01.238 Others In Grid 17 Gimbert Sébastien Yamaha YZF-R1 2'00.857 2'00.554 41 18 Muggeridge Karl Honda CBR1000RR 2'01.086 2'00.607 34 19 Checa David Yamaha YZF-R1 2'01.984 2'00.643 41 20 Kiyonari Ryuichi Honda CBR1000RR 2'02.494 2'00.698 38 21 Iannuzzo Vittorio Kawasaki ZX-10R 2'02.256 2'00.854 32 22 Holland Russel Honda CBR1000RR 2'03.006 2'00.971 38 23 Tamada Makoto Kawasaki ZX-10R 2'04.264 2'01.303 30 24 Morelli Luca Honda CBR1000RR 2'02.980 2'01.396 38 25 Laconi Régis Kawasaki ZX-10R 2'02.100 2'01.429 32 26 Nakatomi Shinichi Yamaha YZF-R1 2'03.542 2'01.675 40 27 Aoyama Shuhei Honda CBR1000RR 2'03.796 2'02.059 41 28 Napoleone Loic Yamaha YZF-R1 2'06.363 2'05.516 31 |

Hehe J, as I have told you in the past I really have no preference either way for British riders, I would like to see Bradders and Toseland do well but only coz no Brits have done anything in the past.
SS for me is a rather low key formula kinda Division 2, those British lads who a re in there should all be on Superbikes!! Not to take anything away from the SS series, which actually looks really good this year, more strength in depth in WSBK even! But you know what I mean, riding SS is better than another year on the tredmaill in BSB, plus you et to go nice places!! |

Looking forward to this! I have to wait till Sunday to watch the races though. At least we get both races and not one. Thank you Speed. Sort of...
I don't understand why Honda held off delivering the bikes so late. American Honda also got their bikes very late. Corser for a win maybe? |

Maybe the season is starting too early? Somehow it doesn't seem like people are ready for the first 2 rounds. Ten Kate, PSG and the factory Ducatis in particular have under-performed. Great effort by Jonny Rea in Supersport BTW.

Observations:
First wet round will be first win for McCoy. Either that or if they start putting scrub tyres on the rear. Second, what is with 28 bikes in the SBK grid? What is this? 1998? This isn't modern superbike at all. Thirdly, I have no thirdly. Oh yes I do. I have to work, damnit so I miss the first race. |
