BMW facing protest over rear wing...
Another week, another rear wing protest.
Apparently Honda are about to, or have put in a protest over BMW's rear wing, claiming they have: Quote:
Are they legal, are they illegal, can they flex a bit, are they not allowed to flex at all? Does anyone have any details on what the FIA changed about the rear wing tests before Canada? |

Why is mighty Honda worried about Sauber anyway? Weren't they supposed to be winning races and contending for the championship this year?

Vill-Tracy? Nah, can't be this year, I thought they meant last year...
...or the year before that? ...or the year before that even? Ahh what ever, its hard to keep track with DC as your press officer. |

Incidently, both Ferrari changed rear wings just before qually and it went much better for them after that.

Monster, if we are talking about the thing announced the other day, and it has been implemented for Canada, then, as far as I am aware, the change is just that spacers are put in to prevent the closing up (the wings don't need to be altered per say).
Anyway, whatever the situation regarding BMW, it is Ferrari's fault. |

The FIA haven't said anything. I've seen the evidence on Autosport, and it seems quite flagrant, to be honest. There's quite a bit of separation, but I'm not sure about the angles the pics were taken from.
What is funny is that Honda say "if Jacques Villeneuve or Nick Heidfeld finish ahead of our cars, we will lodge a protest". Surely if it's illegal it's illegal in first place or in last place? Does that mean that if Honda weren't underperforming they wouldn't care about BMW's wing...? |

All the teams wings should be declared illegal at the seasons end and Super Aguri should win both championships by default because their wings were made years ago.I can collect my one million pounds and this forum will go into melt down.
One could imagine some kind of heating element inside the rear wing (or any aero device) which makes the wing more pliable.Explaining to the FIA about why your wing has melted could be tricky though. Last edited by Marbot; 25 Jun 2006 at 11:12. |

Those pictures on Autosport.com are a nie idea, but frankly show nothing.
And there is a distinct lack of desire to find some facts too. |

I smelt a Rat...when Kubica (good as we all acknowledge he is) set a fastest lap of 1.16.390 on a very dirty, green track in Friday's first free paractice, TWO seconds faster than anyone else! In the second Friday session his 1.16.965 was over a second quicker than his teams 2 race drivers, who did nearly 30 laps between them to ended up only setting 9th & 10th fastest times.
Then in Qually 2, JV sets a 1.15.5 to split the Renaults!...Come on! In business that fights over tenths, hundred's and thousand's of a second, only idiot's would be fooled by such nonsense anyway! Last edited by Rennen; 25 Jun 2006 at 13:28. |

I don't understand. Why does the third driver being one second faster than the race drivers mean that there is a problem with the rear wing?
I can see why a quick time might be questioned? But why specifically JV's 15.5 in a rubbered in track when compared to a 16.9 on a green track? Surely this can be explained by many differening situations? Anyway, how much is this dodgy wing worth then? 2s a lap? |

I don't remember them protesting anything?
Are they going to protest now they have been beaten by BMW now? It would seem daft as the FIA checked them (as koper pointed out), this morning. |

They can't protest, as has been said the BMW's are confirmed as legal.
Honda need to concentrate on maintaining their constructors position now, as it may be under threat. |

They need to develop a faster car and the drivers need to drive quicker.

But it would be pointless, as Adam says. |
