Tom Carnegie retires
Apparently 60+ year IMS track announcer Tom Carnegie has finally announced his retirement. He was doing the majority of the work even during practice days up until just a few years ago and did all of the initial run through the order of pole day this year and I'm sure a good bit of the race. His voice IS the speedway and I'm incredibly happy that I made it out to the track this year to hear him in person.

I can hear him in my head:
"A NEW TRACK RECORD..." about the only tradition left at Indy is leaving...he will be missed |

Tom Carnegie has earned his retirement....
What an incredible broadcast voice.... His other famous line: "HE'S ON IT......" I am interested in who might take over for Tom, but if I have a guess, it would possibly be Dave Calabro, who is the guy who helps with the PA announcing out there.... Like Tom, Dave is a local sportscaster who works hard and has paid his dues...also a good broadcast voice |

Considering Bob Jenkins who did a lot of the work at the speedway this year during practice days will probably be back at ABC/ESPN doing NASCAR next year, it's very likely that Calabro will take over.
