New Ute series

Has anybody heard anything about a new ute series to be implemented next year?
I have been told that VESA are going to introduce their own ute series next year. The cars will be based on the V8 supercars and are under construction at the moment.
If true, the VESA structure would be much the same as NASCAR ie Nextel Cup, Busch series and Craftsman trucks.

Yeah: Garry Rogers has been testing the prototype for about 4 years now, including one time at Calder wearing ONLY: shorts, a leather flying jacket, white scarf and 'Biggles' style leather WW2 flying helmet.. ,
I do seem to recall it being his birthday that day, or somthing similar.........

There was some mob trying to get an "Extreme" Ute series off the ground. But with the V8Brutes already established, I think the project went nowhere and died quietly. From memory the cars were supercharged and had massive wheels and slicks etc. Somewhat like the GRM SuperUte.

I think it was the organisers of Power Tour were trying to get this up - I also remember being surprised at the time they announced it these utes were also going to be LPG powered !?!?

CAMS knocked it on the head as they already had the Brute series and didnt want a similar catagory. But now that VESA are sugesting it it will probably given the goahead and dont worry about the Brutes.

peckstar has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
one of the most popular selling vehicles in australia is the toyota hilux, its is a better seller than the falcon or commodore ute

Ford holden mitsubishi all compete in this market, wouldnt that be a lot more interesting to watch, then we can truly go the NASCAR way

That was tried years ago and it flopped. The crowd didn't like it and apparently neither did competitors, barely a dozen cars were built, despite some keen, almost ridiculous marketing.

David that was then.... and yes I did follow it especially one Mazda Bravo a fellow club members mate..

With the new breeds out there now and with manufactures behind it this kind of class could be a warm up B4 the V8's...

The current brutes are good enough. However the category doesn't seem to attract the attention it used to.

Could it be that they are being shown on SpeedWeek, where you never know what is going to be shown, rather than on a Procar show where you did know what was being shown?

If they were to become the "official" third tier series then they should alternate with the development series as the major support at domestic rounds with both of them appearing at Adelaide and Bathurst.

I remeber watching all "5" of them drive around Oran Park slower than the medical car. They were more boring than the 121 Mazda series.

Glen Ridge I think was racing one of them.

News is that Lotus are off at Bathurst, will that mean the V8 Utes will get the call up?

I'd be interested to see how they ever achieved parity for such an idea, considering the Falcon utes are a hybrid chassis and the Commodore utes are full monocoque

The Utes have their show on Speed Machine on Channel 9, all dates should easily be found on the website.

Lets leave the utes to the guys who helped make the category what it is today.

the Denyer connection

Will the Denyer connection with V8 Utes ensure there is some order if VESA want them out?

Who are the movers & shakers behind V8 Utes, who holds the shares in Australian V8 Ute Racing Pty Ltd?

I found a 'Sports Sunday' story from the early 90s on the series a few months back. Charles Stewart did the story and it included a guest spot in Warwick Rooklyn's second Nissan Nirvara. The field was 'very' thin as is pointed out, called 'sports utility racing'.

The trucks used to have all sorts of weird and wonderful support acts, anyone remember the Landcruisers?
