Indy: Fri practive - Rubens crash
Rubens has just crashed heavily in the banked corner! Strange crash. He had already lost the back half way throught the corner. Mechanical failure? Hit a puddle.
It was his first flying lap. |

Red flag.
First time an F1 car has hit the concrete (well new safety structure in front of the concrete). Rubens got out straight away and walked back to the pits. "I don't know what happened". |

Bridgestone guy says that he doesn't think it was a tyre problem. Rubens suggested that it might have been. They are going to check when the car gets back.
On the truck the Ferrari is dangling forwards - Lots of ballast at the front of the car? (a frong and a rear wheel is missing. Rubens is telling Patrick Head (!) that "something broke". Patrick was telling him that he thought he saw the rear tyre "off the rim". |

Fisi went off 3 times.
Webber twice. Ralf twice (including taking his rear wing off and then rejoining leaving it in teh middle of the track!). Jags went well. Fisi is quickest down the straight (I think - a tow). First sector: MS Second sector: Fisi Third sector: Montoya Now there's a good mix! Michael didn't go back out after the red flag. Presumably they are worried about the failure. |

well....They interviewed Gary Anderson of Jordan , and he said that it could have been caused by the tyre pressure being too low. Because on a banked corner , on a out lap if the pressures are slightly to weak then the extra loadings of a banked curve can force the tyre off the rim .

Ross Brawn has been really looking hard at the broken wheel rim...that havent let TGF back out on track again in the session , so maybe they are not sure yet .
On another note....TGF is quickest in the session, yet he only done 3 laps !....how does he do that ?..amazing . |

Good point Sato san: 4 laps, only 2 quick ones, before the track was at its quickest. Still sets the fastest lap!
Not bad. |

Wow that's really cool.
The conversation between Wattie (or Sonic) and Eddie was a bit odd. |

Does anyone have a video of this accident, lousy telly coverage here means I don't have a hope of seeing it any other way.

Was that painting/thing posted by Speed an imprint of Rubens Ferrari after it hit the wall? If it is then thats pretty awesome! Looks like a ghostly cartoon F1 car or something.
Oh and what Valve Bounce said. |
