UAE/Dubai GT and Touring Car Championship
Hi - Im a newbie on here and the consumate petrol/racer head.
I thought you guys might be interested in seeing some of the pics from the first round of the UAE GT/Touring car Championship that was hosted at the Dubai Autodrome last weekend. It was a great season opener even if we where missing a number of cars that will turn up at Rd2.. There are plans to hit the Yas Marina Track in the coming months and with the grid looking to double for both the GT's and the Touring cars it looks to be a good year ahead. Now I must get my car finished for the start of Rd2 |

Welcome to the forums! You've got some really cool pics there, are you a pro photographer? Also, what car are you running in round two?

rsphil; welcome to the forum. There was a little coverage of your event at CorvetteMotorsports.com.
See here: http://www.corvette-motorsport.com/n...son-opener-156 Looks like a Callaway-built Corvette won the race. DK |

Hey Guys - Thanks very much for the welcome! I've been a lurker here for years and thought it high to come onboard...
This link here will help you out with the story behind the race and the drivers in the GT Championship. http://www.crankandpiston.com/?q=node/494 As has been mentioned Karim Al-Azhari stole the show in his and TAM Engineering's new monster Callaway Corvette. Karim has been one of the quickest guys on the grid for the last couple of years - It's yet to be seen whether he is the quickest in like for like cars though as his machine is usually the best. The other cars on the grid are as follows... 997 Cup cars Ex Oreca Viper Ginetta G50 Porsche 944 996 GT3 Evo's to come... Aston DBRS9 More Cup cars Another Viper (new shape) EVO X Lotus Exige x2 More Ginetta's There are others that skip my my mind at the moment..Just to mention the above cars are GT class only...There is another grid full of Touring cars (I run in the Touring cars) that was also running light this weekend... There are a truck load of SEATS, VW's, Hondas and Clios etc still to come... |

I have been racing either my MK5 Golf GTI below or a Radical PR6 in the Gulf Radical Cup run by one of my sponsors Gulf-Sport... As you can see we have done a fair amount of work on the Golf to take on the SEATS... |

The Ginetta was the new G50 'hot climate' model that was entered by their local agent GulfSport Racing and driven by their Technical Manager to see how it would cope with local conditions. Ambient temperature was 40C and tarmac was 53C, not untypical of racing conditions in Dubai. Some of the drivers struggled with the very high cabin temperatures though.
