well werent there rumours of mclaren making a return to lemans?, maybe this could be it many people for a long time have wanted to see the viper come back to lemans i think it would be great to see the DBR9, the C6R and the viper going head to head in the GT1 class at lemans and in the FIA GT and LMS and ALMS and i feel it is likely we will see a viper run by mclaren at lemans in a few years time or maybe next year if we get lucky

The Diamondback was engineered by a different McLaren; not the Ron Dennis run company. So the suggested link is based on sheer ignorance.

Two points:

1) At no stage did I suggest that the link was to the "Ron Dennis run company", and taking it to be so is a complete assumption.

2) Perhaps it would be better to explain the situation (as you appear to be in an educated position) rather than criticise the posting of a link to an (in my humble opinion) interesting article.

I was not referring to your post, but to the article. The author of the article is trying to imply the only well known McLaren was involved. Wether it was intentionally or not, it should have been mentioned that this was a different company than the average reader would assume.

You mean McLaren Performance?

So there's the McLaren Group (= F1 team), Nicholson McLaren and McLaren Performance. The last two are both engine developers....3 different companies with same name...very confusing.

They were all one company once, but split up somewhere in the 1970s possibly when Ron Dennis bought the F1 team.

Interesting, but it will remain on roads, I'm afraid.

I thought I just read in my recent Automobile Magazine that this was nothing more than a test mule for the new Chrysler version of the Viper - not some super-Viper. It was a concept a few years ago, the name escapes me now.

Edit: found it: the Chrysler Firepower
