the marshalls favorite racing driver

hiya people,

i was just wondering out of curiosity what the marshalls favorite racing driver is, doesnt matter whether they are famous or not or not confined to a specific series, also have you ever had to help or even "save" your favorite racing driver when he or she has smashed their car up, my favorite racing driver is tom chilton the lead driver for VX racing in the BTCC, he's a good guy unlike some drivers who are more miserable than drizzle and also he was the only chatty racing driver i have ever come across which is nice for a change and he has good hair because mine is the same

post away people

Favourite racing driver...not sure on that one. I've not really spoken to any of the "famous" ones...I'd have to say all my Dunlop Track and Race Car Championship guys. I can't pick one in particular as the others would get the hump!! They're a great bunch of guys and they always have clean and entertaining racing.

Possibly Alvin Powell, but I haven't met many drivers at all. The ones I have seem to be nice...

(apart from one last weekend who was cheeky to me)

I should hope so!! He is President of the British Motorsports Marshals Club!!!

Come on, the most successful Club Racer, definite friend of the Marshals, (he would buy you a pint, no problem); and one of the most brilliant on track entertainers, with no front; friend of the Marshals, why the late GERRY MARSHALL!!!

I've done precious little marshalling... but speaking on behalf of you guys, I'd probably have said Johnny Herbert. He's a really nice guy, and in his F1 days he had so many retirements, he's probably met and spent time with almost every one of you guys... all around the world

As a collective, the Legends drivers.

Only driver I really know as a person (thus my favourite) is Rob Huff. Really nice chap. Met him when we did a couple of rounds of the Clio scholarship together and he was really friendly and encouraging, offering pointers to us mere mortals that didn't have his level of experience. Since then I've always been impressed by how approachable and down to earth he is. His apology to the marshals at the WTCC when he crashed his car because he'd "had to give it large" is indicative of his pleasant demeanour.

Yes, Rob Huff; when I picked him up from the Pits last year (BH) and took him to a trade stand with a signing for SEAT (after the BTCC Race) he was so pleasant and grateful he had n't to walk; BUT GERRY MARSHALL!!!

Perhaps you did not know him too well. Latterly I had many dealings with Gerry and Geoffery Marsh who sponsored him through the Aston Martin Owners Club.

Actually I did - from the 70's through to his untimely demise!

it was meant as a jovial comment due to the spelling of the original question -

Hmm, I have different categories of "favourites"!

Ayrton Senna was in a category of his own for being nice to me at Donington Park and Silverstone in 1993!

David Leslie, Ian Flux, John Cleland, Andy Rouse, Will Hoy, Jason Plato, Frank Biela - for being thoroughly nice chaps (off track!)

Gerhard Berger, Johnny Herbert, Mauricio Gugelmin, Perry McCarthy - for retaining a sense of humour despite F1.

Gerry Marshall, Wizzo - for entertaining the marshals (on and off the track!)

Shane Lynch (droooooool ) - for being so down to earth, wonderful to my friends kids, having a soft lilting Irish accent and those twinkly blue eyes (oh, and he's pretty useful behind the wheel too!)

John Wilcox, Trevor Ford - for listening to marshals when writing their regs and for marshalling when they are not racing.

Craig Shepherd - for just being a real sweetie.

Tim Falce - for providing CAKE!

Give me a bit more time and I'll come up with several more favourites!

Which reminds me - aren't we marshals supposed to be IMPARTIAL?

Trying to pick just one - difficult.

So I am going to nominate my two favourite sets of friendly drivers - all those from the legends series & the NSSC series

Today (03-06-06) at Croft once again both series provided exciting, incident filled racing racing only matched by there friendly nature off track.

And the sun blazed away all day and best of all we do it all again on Sunday

Ahhh no, not quite - I missed out the Caterhams (all of them, but particularly Graeme who does so much to drum up support for the Plum Pudding Meeting)

Blimey thats some list there Sheila...how did I know Craig would feature?

I still haven't thought of one that I would say is a favourite. I can certainly think of some that would be bottom of the list.

prob my fellow kiwi Greg Murphy of V8 Supercar fame. King of Bathurst and Pukekohe in recent years.

Has a great driving style...doesnt lift off the accelerator when changing up! and his battles with rivals (esp. Marc(ass) Ambrose) provide some excellent racing.

Also a pretty big Peter Brock fan (every Holden supporter is tho!) and Danica Patrick (IRL) is also a favorite (for obvious reasons heheh...)
