Info request on Zakspeed Escort RS2000
Hi All,
I have a 1980 RS2000 Escort X-pack, that was bought new by a British soldier serving in Germany in 1980. I have been told that it was bought new from Zakspeed, appartently Mr Zakspeed used to run a Ford dealership aswell, can anyone confirm this? My RS2000 is very unusual as it was originally Roman Bronze, and has some unique feature for a RS2000 MK2, namely a chocolate interior roof lining, chassis plate in the boot, German X-pack kit, opening 1/4 windows and of course the colour. Unfortunaltely I don't have the original German reg documents so I am having a real hard time trying to trace any history on the car, can anyone help? It was never a race car, but maybe is was used for demo purposes or maybe a special order. Thanks, Mark |

Hi Mark and welcome
Yes, Zakowski started out as a Ford dealer and that got Zakspeed going. They developed the odd special edition of Ford road cars (Capri comes to mind) and sold them through the 'Zakspeed' connection, so could have done a special RS2000. Maybe one of the forum users other side of channel could help. If you havn't already, I would also contact the RS Owners club. Good luck |

Thanks for the info. I am in the RSOC, and I have tried one of the old timer Ford forums in Germany too, plus a few forums in the UK, but as yet no luck. I am currently trying to trace the 1st & 2nd UK owners when the car was imported into the UK. Mark |

The word Zakspeed in thread title does act as a magnet so you never know! In meantime I'll do a bit of delving as well.

HI Mark,
I used to have an RS2000 X-Pack too, mine was a black Custom spec. with brown interior (but white rooflining!) and had a Janspeed turbo fitted from new. I owned it for about 15 years, and sold it to a friend about 10 years ago, it had only covered 41000 miles and be lucky if he has added 500 miles since. As far as I know the X-Pack was a dealer fit option,(and were never fitted in the factory) and part of a range of accessories you could buy to customise your car before it left the dealer. The X-Pack arches on mine were badly fitted and cracking, and I replaced them all and repainted the car at the time. I guess whoever the dealer who sold the car was, must have farmed out this job to someone a bit ordinary in the skills dept. Was a stunning looking car on the 7.5x13 four spokes, and went quite well too with the turbo! |
